E.on - What's happened?

Had my reminder email to say that Fix Online 8 is coming to an end, so a quick look at the E.on website shows the only equivalent tariff available offers slightly more expensive unit prices, but NO 17% online discount. Why? It's still an online product?

All in all it looks like an 18-19% minimum increase if I stay with E.on, so time to shop around.

Real shame as I have really liked E.on as a business, but I'm not prepared to pay over the odds when there are plenty of competitors to choose from.

I have just had that email and I am going to be paying £193 a year more for saveonline7

Cheapest I can get at the moment is BG at £140 more.

I wonder what the tariffs will be on 1st July?

    So say all of us....

One thing that disturbed me slightly re the email was this paragraph:-

"If you wish to review your options, then simply log in to your account to see what other plans we have available for you. Due to recent changes in the way we work with cost comparison sites, you'll no longer see the full range of E.ON plans on all sites. You'll only see our full range if you log in to your account."
Hope that they are not all going to start "hiding" plans from comp. sites:mad:

Nearly 40% increase for me on the best fix I could find

Hmm, Are E.on about to see a mass exodus?

Are they relying on most people's apathy to boost their profits and not worry about the dozens, hundreds, thousands that walk?

I've been with E.on for years & years as they have always been competitive and provide excellent service and online facilities - that's the bit I don't understand, they're just not competitive right now and reading the post on this very forum from others, they are aware and don't seem to care?!

Best thing to do is if your concrened about what you will pay when Fix Online 8 is ending is hit the comparison sites. As James2012 has already stated BG Web Saver 11 is the current cheapest deal, dearer than Fix Online 8, but cheaper than current cheapest Eon tariff, Save Online 7. Bear in mid Web Saver 11 wont be around a lot longer, the tariff runs until 31st May 2012, given a switch takes about 5-6 weeks to go through you would bet that BG will remove it for sale by the end of May 2011 at the latest, possibly sooner, and there will be no guarantee that Websaver 12 will be as competitive, so I would way up paying the £30 canx charge to Eon, against getting the cheapest deal available to switch to now, becuase who knows what the market will look like 1st July 2011.

brewerdave - there are no hidden Eon tariffs, there are some existing customer only deals, such as Price Control (capped deal), that a new customer joining Eon will not be offered, but the main range of products, Track and Save9, Save Online 7, Eon Standard, Price Protection April 2013 and Age UK tariffs; are all on the comparison sites as well as Eon's own site. All power co's do offer tariffs only to existing customers (usually these are renewal propostions for customers on expiring capped deals or online deals) BG also offer tariffs to customers that you can only fins out about by speaking to them directly, rather than using a comp site, such as 4% Discount Tracker (others have been Discount Tracker, Track and Save 2011 and a couple of others). As you are aware tho the cheapest deals that all power co's offer are their online only tariffs and these details are always available via any of the comp sites.

  • I've just applied to switch from EON Fix Online 8 to BG Web Saver 11 through Energy Helpline. When I clicked to view more information about the capped rate ending soon, it said that they will make the switch for me on 1st July so that I won't incur a cancellation charge from EON. I also thought it was useful that Energy Helpline display your likely annual gas/elec charge once Fix Online 8 has ended so that you can see clearly where savings can be made.

I have just been putting all the Eon tariffs into my spreadsheet and the most expensive tariff is the Age UK tariff ending in April 2013.

So do they think that just because someone is old they can get away with overcharging them?

Even their price protection tariff which ends at the same time is cheaper.

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to put a bit of info on for you.

As we all know FixOnline 8 will be coming to an end in a couple of months, as normal if you don't change your tariff you will be put on to the standard energyonline tariff.

To get the best view of other E.ON tariff's to change to, you can do this via logging on to your online account.

To do a full comparison, use a comparison site and select the box to view the full market this will then show the E.ON tariffs as well.

As we have said before, we don't know what tariff's will be launched in the future, so by the time FixOnline 8 has ended there may be other tariff's to choose from.

The newer versions of online tariff's don't have a separate online discount in a percentage, this is built in to the unit prices, the Direct Debit and dual fuel discount is still a percentage.

Sorry I can't be of much help.

The e-mail turned up at 20:48 last night.

Well, it's been a good run, but the party had to end sometime.

My current fantasy is that the Americans stabilise the Middle East,
so the oil flows freely, and the price falls back to $30 a barrel.

Fantasy B is to marry a rich beautiful woman who can afford central heating.

Hi Helena, thanks for the feedback.

Someone in E.ON must hold responsibility for announcing Tariff's & pricing structures. Frankly, at the moment, they want their butts kicked as they are letting E.ON down. To email your customers and advise them the current Tariff is ending then not offer a competitive replacement product is commercial suicide isn't it?! Have you got any idea how many hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people are comparing prices & moving away from E.ON right now?

If the difference was a few £ I would stick with E.ON for the customer service, but it's not, it amounts to hundreds of £s and frankly, I can't afford to leave that big a tip at the dinner table.
