Just had my money stolen! :-(

  • Hope you get it sorted soon!

I was appalled when I was trying to buy something with my cc some months ago and was made to stand aside in a queue as I was questioned endlessly, bank phoned to verify who I was etc- not a great experience but they let me use my cc eventually for the purchase. I was told to call fraud centre when I got home.

Apparently there had been some recent attempted purchases on my card which they had declined. Would have been nice if they had alerted me sooner.

As I am very careful with all my details, all the bank could offer as to how that had happened was that criminals try out various combinations of numbers and sometimes "get lucky"!!! Huh?
  • A few months ago my daughter was due a renewal bank card. When she realised it hadn't arrived she contacted her bank. They sent replacement card in one envelope and new pin number in another. She didn't receive them and when she went into bank to get cash they told her that her account was overdrawn beyond her limit and she couldn't have any money. They weren't very helpful and would not let her have any cash while they investigated.

Eventually a local postman was prosecuted for stealing cards from the post. My daughter did get her money reimbursed by the bank and £100 compensation but it was a stressful time for her.

Since then, I try not to keep too much money in my current account.

When I got remarried this year, I went into the bank and filled out the forms, which ask for names (new and old), address, date of birth, phone number, bank accounts numbers, card numbers etc., etc., They also took a copy of my marriage certificate and my passport.

In short, a potted history of my life.

When a new cheque book came in my old name, I went back to query why nothing had been changed.

I was then informed they had lost all the forms - with all my details on, and with my copy marriage certificate attached.

When I went ballistic and said that anyone could now "steal" my identity, I was just told that it was more than likely laying about somewhere, and not to worry.......

Jeez - and then banks nag us about being careful.

So, now, I am paranoid - every time I pass a bank, I get a print out to make sure all is as it should be with my accounts....:(

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

an "organised crime" scam at South Coast BP garages, that has been on the news - (they put workers in simply to get the details of credit cards and did it to loads of drivers),

blimey, that ties in with a member of staff where I work who had her card skimmed at the BP opposite where I work about a month ago.....i've bought petrol from there loads of times.......gulp....
  • You would have thought that Barclays would have realised that something was amiss.

I went to South Africa with my Mother three years ago and she forgot to tell Barclaycard that she was going to be out of the country. She used her visacard once, no problem. Aha, but the second time she went to use it the shop was asked to phone Barclaycard and my Mother had to speak to someone to confirm her name and age etc. When we got home Barclaycard had tried to phone several times on the day she initially used the cc abroad. I was impressed with their service.

Hope you get sorted soon. Most banks are fairly swift at paying back money that has been taken out fraudulently.

So sorry to hear about this and hope it gets sorted quickly for you...it's so worrying all this fraud...I think Barclays have been slow to pick up on it as if I've spent unusually on credit cards the firms always phone me the same day..this has been numerous firms..not just one!!..as soon as this is sorted it may be an idea to close the card and get written confirmation as well as cutting up the card
