Just had my money stolen! :-(

I was in the mood to start sorting my finances...so off I head to my online Barclays account to find myself £1,900 overdrawn!!! WHAAAAAAT!!!! No way! So I start looking at my statements and there were loads of weird payments on there....

https://www.nomi-phone.com, iphone, editions en 43, bluehost inc, verizon web call u, calling card compa (from places like USA, Canada, Luxembourg, France, Norway)....all making mysterious debits and credits to my account.

Taking out £79.86 and then depositing £5 etc....and loads of other weird transactions!

I'm seriously miffed....and have contacted fraud department at barclays who are now sending me a claim form.

It's a card I rarely use and i have all the firewalls, anti virus stuff etc on my computer!

Anyone else have some good advice at preventing card fraud?

  • Crikey. Hope you get it sorted - and soon.

Don't really know what to say except the obvious. Always check sites are encrypted (url must start with https and the website have a padlock at bottom right hand corner) before giving details.......always clear cookies....check for keylogging spyware (use SpyBot and/or X-Cleaner which are both freeware you can download).

I also use Cr ap Cleaner after every internet session too - another bit of freeware.

If you use the cc at a cash machine, always cover your hand when entering the pin number....

Don't really know what else to suggest....

That might not be how your details were obtained.

  • Sorry to hear this, but you should get it all back. This happened to me too, all the fraudulent transactions were on-line ones. The card was one I never used, it wasnt till my statement came in I found out. When I phoned them up, they said they would send me a claim form. I said yes, & close the account! That wont be necessary they said! Yes it will I said!! Sheesh.

Really sorry to hear this - I hope they get it sorted soon.
We had something similar but on a less complicated scale - someone paying their phone bill through our account :-(
Natwest just paid up - it wasn't worth them trying to track down the thief or anything. This was in the days before chip & pin and we reckoned it was possibly a shop assistant misusing the details they then had access to. Mind you, not all chip & pin terminals (there's probably a proper name for them but I can't think of it) are all that private.
    Commiserations.

  • I had a mint card once that I only ever used for a small balance transfer. Never used it for anything else and did it over the phone and that card got fraudulently used.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do Goldilox!
