    hiya,

how do i post my tesco shopping basket so you can see?

ive done a rough shop to around £56
its what we like and includes yog & fruit for snacking anyways heres a rough meal plan i came up with,
    so based on 4 its:

    Guide price (55 items)£56.03

    Monday
    breakfast: weetabix & milk (2 x each)
dinner: chicken salad sandwich, use cucumber & bagged salad,
use 1 piece of chicken each from the Tesco Light Choices Roast Chicken 85G
tea: home made lasagne with HM chips and peas
use 1 pack of mince, onions peppers m`room, 1 tin of toms,
cheese sauce packet, grated cheese on top,

    Tuesday
breakfast: 2 slices of toast each with lurpak or jam
dinner: jacket potatoe with colsaw & a piece of fruit & yoghurt
tea: chicken wrap, use 1 pack of chicken breast (half breast per person) use plenty of onion, m`room, peppers and the other tin of toms, add some herbs, add to wrap and maybe some cheese,

    Wednesday
    breakfast: weetabix
    dinner: pea and potatoes soup
tea: omellette & with home made chips, use eggs, cheese & onion,

    Thursday
    breakfast: toast with lurpak/jam
dinner: jacket potatoe with tuna mayo, some onion, grated cheese,
    add fruit & yog,
tea: chicken curry & rice, other pack of chicken, add onion, peppers, m`room, tins toms add another tin to shopping list, tikka masala packet mix,

    Friday
    breakfast : cereal
    dinner: egg may sarnie, fruit,
tea: sausage (use full pack 2 sausages per person) with mash potatoe, peas, carrots and yorkshire pud, gravy if got in storecupboard,

    Saturday
breakfast: toast with lurpak or jam
dinner: jacket potatoe with beans & cheese (use 2 tins so half tin per person)
tea: egg and chips, fruit and yog,

    Sunday
    breakfast: scambled egg on toast
dinner: chicken salad wrap, other pack of Tesco Light Choices Roast Chicken 85G with any salad left
tea: other pack of mince to make shepards pie with peas carrots, onion yorkshire pud & gravy if got in store cupboard,

    1 pack of 24 weetabix = 2 per person for 3 days
could have chopped banana on top of the weetabix or sprinkle of sugar,
    1 pac
k of choc chips to make midweek snack of cookies (flour sugar stork,
could also use eggs, flour, sugar to make a few sponge cakes,
snacks could be the yoghurts & fruits,

ive also added a pack of pasta and a "spare" pack of tuna to make a tuna pasta salad,
add a spare tin of beans,
these are spare meals in case anyone pops over or fancies something else,
a pack of 9 toilet roll,
    a kitchen cleaner,
a bottle of bold 2in1 gel,
1 jar of coffee <--- need a coffee in the morning,
    1 bottle of juice,

so thats £56 then for me personally i would need dog food and treats for 1 dog,
id need shampoo / toothpaste / mouthwash / shower gel etc

This is a fantastic thread!!! OH and I are constantly arguing about our shopping bill, its over £100 per week, this time 3 years ago i could shop for under £50, admittedly I now have have 21 month old DS and a tweenager DD

I'm gonna give this a go and start pricing up each meal, OH moans at me for "wasting" food and he just made me a cheese and ham sandwich - I am not kidding u he used a whole pack of the 2 for £3 Mr T ham and he sliced the cheese about 1cm thick!!! who is wasteful?

I shall start tomorrow as OH has made me a lovely green thai curry which is quite cheap, chicken, 3tbsp green thai paste, soft cheese (Philly but i use own brand) can't remember what else and long grain rice (value)

A really cheap, quick and easy wasy to make curry:

Curry Paste (whatever one u like ie Tikka Masala)
    Yogurt
    Meat or veg
    Natural Yog or Fromage Frais
    Herbs ie coriander
    Jacket Spuds or Rice

I do this with Mr T's market value mushrooms, fry them off, then add 1tbsp (per person) or curry paste, when water from mushrooms has evaporated remove from heat and value nat yog to the consistency and taste u like - if you don't like nat yog, try fromage frais about 89p in Mr T, my kids love mushroom curry delish over jacket spud, if we have it, i chop fresh coriander on top

They have everyone on a diet. I totted up the calories and it is about 1500 - 1600 calories a day. Even a woman would lose upwards of 3 1/2 stone in a year on this. Like the other meals it does feel a bit cobbled together and not particuarly well thought out, but I bet their brief was working mum, not much time, not a great deal of cooking experience, probably as someone said used to serve ready meals 3/4 times a week. So not really us.

A friend at work brought the leaflet in last week and asked what I thought as she normally spends around £150 in Sainsbugs every week for 4 adults . Initially I thought it would be not bad as it would help her cut down but then I did what you obviously did and added up the calories. Ok, I suppose you could add to your calories with snacks but that's not really feeding your family for £50. Disappointed because it could have been good for those not used to meal planning.

Chicken Arabiata takes about 25 mins. Serves 4. ( is quite spicy)

    400g value pasta shapes.
500g chicken breast, thinly sliced. ( I use the cheapest frozen breasts, defost, rinse in cold water and pat dry)
1small onion chopped ( I use frozen diced onions and works fine)
    1/2 teaspoon hot chilli powder
    2 teaspoons garlic powder
2tablespoons of frozen sliced peppers (or one large fresh)
250ml passata ( I use half a 500ml carton and freeze the rest)
    Little olive oil for frying.

Heat the oil in a wok, fry the onion till soft, add the peppers and chicken and stir fry till the chicken is no longer raw. Add the garlic powder, chilli powder and passata bring to the boil and reduce to a simmer. Simmer for about 15 mins.
Meanwhile cook 400g pasta shapes in boiling water, drain and stir into chicken mix in the wok. Serve.

Is quite nice next day cold in a packed luch box.

    Cheap, filling and tasty.
