One of my DGS every day has two slices of toast and m8rmite for his breakfast He hates cereals or porridge. He is 11 and has been eating this for breakfast since he was tiny It doesn't seem to have harmed him at all and he eats everything including veg the rest of his meals ,but just can't face anything more than his toast and marmy for breakfast.
It seems to be aimed at folk who perhaps have never thought much about a menu plan .A lot of us on here think 'Oh goodness a whole £50 a week' but we are seasoned hands at concocting breakfast out of almost anything. So if it makes people think more about what thier buying it can only be to the good.I shop in various shops and don't stick to one in particular i go where my purse will let me buy the best value .I buy museli from Sainsbobs but jars of beetroot from MR Ts .My fresh meat comes from the local butchers and depends on whats in season.I don't like supermarket meat as it seems to be full of water or their friut and veg,but if Aldi has an offer on root veg then I will buy it there.its really a case of being a bit canny where you shop but I have been doing for over 50 years so I have had lots of practice :):):)

My shopping bill is usually around £50 a fortnight from tesco delivery (inc delivery charge) and that includes nappies for 2 children! Only things we buy on top of that is a top up of fruit, bread, milk and any "luxuries"!

OMG That's fantastic, do you use own brand nappies? I have vouchers at present so go in to the shop as can't use online but once they're used I will order online - how do you manage it? Is that for loo roll and stuff as well as food? Do you meal plan to the n'th degree?

Looking at the meal plan theres alot of bread products in there, which isn't alot of good to a family with a coeliac member.

maybe i am being cynical but this looks like a marketing exercise to me. the idea of meal planning is exhausting to some people so mr s do it for them so they can still mindlessly shove everything they need into the cart and oh what a suprise they run out near the end of the week and have to 'top up shop' you get my drift.

At least Sainsbury's is trying to give people some ideas on budgeting and meal planning.
They have had quite a number of weekly meals menus recently, which we have found very useful.

Or, because they're brand new to meal planning, they get bored after two days and go back to sainsbury's to buy their usual items to finish the week :p Yes, I'm feeling quite cynical today :p

Just wondered if any of you had had tried Sainsbury's new initiative of feeding a family of 4 3 meals a day for a week for £50. Personally, I think that we could do a lot better, but will sit down properly later to really go through it. For example, sunday lunch is a roast chicken, but there are no leftovers used up in following meals...

I have just loooked at this weeks meal plan and I have to say it's a bit light on meat for us!

I never spend £50 in a supermarket for a week's groceries anyway I agree the OS regulars can do a lot better.

Never mind being light on meat, it is really heavy on bread, lots of days its toast for breakfast, and the sandwiches for lunch, nad the veggie swap option has to be done yourself. EG today's suggestion for the roast chicken is nut cutlets but you have to look for it. Having said all that, I can think of people I know who don't meal plan or get their five a day who would really benefit from it, so there is definitely a market out there.
