When either me or shell need to take any thng back on the others card we take both cards as its a joint account and if its questioned it has the sort code and account number on both so they will uually put it on the card used as they can see that you are who you say you are if that makes sense.:j WILL GET THERE SOON :j

I'd be pretty wound up if this happened to me.
I used to work retail and we would refund to the same "payment type" - ie to a debit card if payed by debit card, credit card if by credit card etc.
I can't believe they wouldn't do it for you, did you explain that your wife was not easily able to travel?
Last week I had to cancel a couple of credit cards as I've been the victim of fraud - should I now be unable to get a refund on any faulty item I bought using these cards? It's just not right.0 -
It's not illegal, just policy, just telling them it's the same card usually does the trick.:beer:0

b and q do it so do many others has to go back to original card ,they give vouchers if they cant do that ...whats wrong with that ? seems your being a bit awkward what if they said get stuffed numpty or gave kiwk save vouchers0

Its a broad policy used by shops to stop people "maxing" the card ie spending on it up to its limit, then getting cash refunds on ,or using a stolen or fraudulent card to get a cash refund. On the face of it it does seem ridiculous over one roll of wallpaper, but staff often have no chioce but to adhere to the company policy.0

I've had this a few times. As people above have siad, it's a common policy amongst retail outlets to prevent all sorts of consumer antics.
As far as B and Q are concerned, it's usually me that buys things and takes them back. If I didn't have the receipt they have refunded me the current price in vouchers. The current price being perhaps different to the one I paid but that's life really.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
It's not illegal, but afaik the stores get charged by the card cos (at least credit cards) for purchases, so presumably that gets reduced on refunds. I had the same problem with b&q because the card I used to buy had been lost and cancelled, they eventually agreed to put the money back on "any card", which they did.0

Was the roll of wallpaper worth more than or less than or equal to the £20 they were offering you? Ive always understood that refunds get processed in the manner in which the purchase originally went through, when I worked in retail a while back I wouldnt refund onto a different card to what it was orignally bought onWeight Loss - 102lb0

B&Q can be a little bit odd with refunds, I found once that I bought 3 identical items (packs of tiles) at the same time, opened 1 and decided not to bother (broke the first 3 out of the 10 tiles in that pack). Because they refund against the original receipt, the fact that they had put it through as 3x packs rather than 3 individual packs seemed to confuse the computer. In the end they had to give me a refund in vouchers (they also gave me a partial refund agains the split pack), which were promptly spent on tile effect laminate instead!0

Precisely, as a member of staff in a large chain store, If I was to put through a refund which was later found out to be on a different card, it could be seen as fraud. Why would I (or any member of retail staff) want to put my job on the line? I completely understand your predicament and had you been in my store I would have called managment and attempted to resolve it. It is only to prevent Fraud, not cos retailers want to be difficult!
