Finally got a call about my computer sending out messages to Microsoft and needing to connect to a web site.:j:rotfl:
I did all the things he wanted me to do, mispelling occasionally and misunderstanding him.
After 15 minutes or so of typing stuff in and reading stuff back to him he tells me my computer is broken and I have to type this into the run box, http://www.careyourpc.com/default.aspx , so that he can fix it for me, and I told him it says cannot connect to web page is that because I don't have an internet connection at home?
But you have to have an internet connection, your computer is sending messages to me he says.
Damm clever computer I've got, connecting to the internet with no internet connection, I told him,
He argued a few more times then hung up.:(

Well done for wasting the scumbag's time. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
You must have one of those new super wireless internet computers.
Good on you for wasting that scamming scums time.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -
I wound up one of these callers last week and I'm sure they've passed my details on to their mates for revenge. If this is the case, OP, be prepared for a call from your bank (when you ask which one they tell you Barclays) who wants to kindly refund your account with £800 for unfair banking charges they've imposed upon you. Have your debit card to hand so that you can check the (incorrect) 16 digit number that they have on record.
But seriously, where do they get our names, addresses and numbers from? I never used to get calls like this and now I seem to get at least one a week0 -
Ive never had 1, i think im missing out, id have a field day with winding him up0

We got a phone call today. They asked for my ex who hasn't lived here since 2002.
Apparently they had notification that my computer had a serious virus on it and they were going to help me fix it. I asked the name of the virus and he said it was a new one called "trojan horse" :rotfl:
I asked which computer the virus was on, but he said he could fix it from any computer in our house :rotfl:
I then put my husband on so he could wind the bloke up and waste some more of his time
It's scary that people fall for these things though. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I had one a few weeks ago. I had him for 15 minutes pretenting to look for things. At one point he must have asked me to go to the start menu at least half a dozen times - terrible phone lines ;o)
Helpfully he spelt out the word 'start' a similar amount of times. I tried to tell him I couldn't find the start menu but he insisted it was there and tried to help me find it. Quite a few times I thanked him for being there to stop the nasty scammers who might try to rip me off. He was really crestfallen when I finally told him that I definitely did not have a start menu because my iMac doesn't have one. But, bless him he tried his best. I figure that if I'm wasting his time, he's not scamming some poor beggar who has no idea what is happening and believes they actually do have a problem on their computer.0 -
I haven't had one of these calls, can I sue someone?
I too wonder where these people get phone numbers from. Been XD for years, not on public electoral roll and very careful about who has my number. Also signed up to the TPS. Yet still they phone to tell me how they can help me with something I hadn't realised I needed help with.0 -
I had one of these calls recently informing me that I had a virus on my computer that "they" (whoever they are) could fix for me. I asked him to explain in detail how he had found out about the virus and could he please explain to me what a virus was exactly as I had no idea!
He probably thought I was stupid and that he had "got a right one here" and was probably thinking....yes, result!! He went into a long explanation about viruses and how dangerous they are but not a problem... he would fix it. When he had nattered on for a while I interrupted him and said "Well its all very strange. I think you must have rung the wrong number" to which he replied "Why do you say that?" "I havent got a computer" says I. At that point he put down the phone. :rotfl:

I've had one today from PC 24-7 (or PC247). After hearing the persons accent and the "I'm ringing about your computer..." I told him to stop scamming people and hung up. Just another name to add to the growing list of 'helpful' companies!0
