Best travel insurance for pre existing medical conditions?

Hi there
Does anyone know where we can get a decent quote for pre existing medical conditions? We both have different conditions (colitis and depression) and are wanting to get one combined policy.
We are going to Turkey in September, but do have a few weekends away in the UK planned too, so prefer an annual policy.
Thanks in advance

I'm not trying to be funny but is depression really something that you're likely to suffer from when you're on holiday ?
Even in Turkey ?
I would have thought declaring existing medical conditions for travel insurance would only really extend to things which might require urgent medical attention.
If you suddenly get overcome with a bout of depression what exactly can a Turkish doctor do to help other than prescribe medication I already presume you're on ?0 -

It is not a matter of "falling ill" with depression - it is a matter of declaring ANY pre-existing conditions.
If the Insurance company find that you have depression as a pre existing condition they are within their rights to refuse to pay out on anything.
Many pre existing complaints have no effect on the premiums - so declaring them won't cost anything anyway..........0 -

So if you fall down and break your leg the insurance company won't pay out if you didn't tell them you suffer from depression ?
That's a strange one.0 -

By jove, I never thought my touch of gout and gammy knee from running too many marathons could affect any possible insurance claim.
Although it doesn't surprise me as the insurance industry is rife with sharp practice and companies who will try every trick in the book to wheedle out of payments.
As you say though, if you are going to take out travel insurance it's best to go through the small print with a fine tooth comb.0 -
Hi sparklygemster,
I would try http://www.free-spirit.com/. I came across them when searching for travel insurance myself a few months ago and they seem pretty good. No harm getting a quote.
Any insurance company will not pay out if you have hidden something from them, even if it has nothing to do with the claim. That is why you usually have 14 days to read the policy wording and ensure you are covered for everything you need to be.
Happy travellingI work for a travel insurance provider.0 -

I have also used Columbus in the past but had to telpehone for the pre-exisitng condition quote. However, when I told them I was now losing my referral site cashback as I hadn't been able to complete on-line, they gave me a dsicount equal to it, which I thought was good of them. Can't say what they are like dealing with claims as I never needed to claim.
There are quite a few threads already about this subject - suggest you try a search of the forum.0 -
I would recommend Columbus as well. I managed to do all the pre-existing stuff online.
They contact you pre-renewel to check nothing has changed. Very friendly staff and good rates0 -

My OH and I always get a good deal with Direct Travel Insurance for our back conditions.
Basically they tend to charge you for the premier plus insurance cover which you can get a quote for instantly online. However you will need to ring them to arrange the cover as they need to ask several questions about your condition.0
