Not necessarily with a shocking credit report - I have no adverse credit whatsoever just not very much and they've declined me and I have a good salary, homeowner etc, - for a 'credit building' card its the most difficult is what I meant

What about all these random debts that appeared on your credit file? was that before or afterwards?

BC Initial was my first ever credit card. Applied for it in July 2010 and I didn't get instant decision. But card turned up within a week and Barclaycard increased my credit limit by whopping 175% just after 4 months. I have always paid on time and have never let them make any money off me.

Also I had applied for Cap1 progress during same week and they havn't increased my limit yet and I am stuck at £200. However in one month's time, my apr will shrunk will to 22%.

Also I had way too many searches (6+) when I had applied for Initial also I wasn't on electoral roll. But I had no other adverse information on my credit report. And my history only dated back 3 years as I moved from States and have banked with Natwest and have o2 contract for over 3 years.

And must say, Initial is a great credit builder card. In Jan 2011, Natwest upgraded my step account to current account.

Not without pain and many phone calls and copies of credit reports sent to RBS and Lowell recorded delivery...for which I am now requesting compensation...we'll see

you can do a pre check to see if you qualify, sadly i didnt qualify but its very useful as it doesnt leave a full credit application footprint on your file

I cant post links but its part of the 'apply with confidence' schmeme which you can google

it also reccomends cards you are likely to be accepted for and in my case it was Aqua and Vanquis so I may apply for one of them, to let you guys know how my credit file is looking and to see if you are more likely to be accepted

i am not on the electoral register (but will be in 2 weeks time)
I have a small satisfied default to HSBC from september 2008
I have 2 CCJ's each £100 and will be falling off my file in July and september this year...hooray
I have a year of missing no payments on my capital 1 card and t mobile contract (In the last 3 years iv missed a payment on each...silly i know)
I am a barclays customer with £1500 overdraft, no late payments for 3 years or overlimit (but i have been living off my overdraft pretty much since uni and have been told by barclays i need to spend a few months out of overdraft to qualify for further credit products)

When I am on the electoral roll and the CCj's are off by september i may try again or apply for the Aqua or Flybe card

Can anyone suggest how much my file will improve once im on the elctoral roll and my CCj's drop off but im left with the default (Which only shows up on my experian and CC not equifax
2 CCJ's coming off in July and September 2011:j

I said its an easy card to get with an OK credit rating, but if you have a trashed report then it would be a hard card to get.
Same with a mainstream card if you have a spot on credit report you will find basically every card a bit of pi*s to get, you will find the people who normally get turned down for the initial card are those who hold a Vanquis card & Cap1 classic and then try the initial.
The card is alright if your trying to build a credit rating, but apart from that nothing!!
could you please clarify above star fire i've had vanquis(only cc) just a couple of months and was planning to apply for initial shortly rated 70/80% likely(ALSO BANK AT BARCLAYS) did you mean it will possibly go against me if you have either or were you saying if you had both it could work against you, would value your opinion many thanks

From what I have seen, you are most likely to get BC Initial if you have limited history, less so if you have adverse information on your credit report.

I would sit with Vanquis and pay it in full for 12 months if I was you pay on time no missed/late payments and I would say you also banking with barclays that you could set your sights higher and go for one of B/C's low interest cards.
You don't need 2 sub-prime cards to build your credit rating managing 1 card very well is quite sufficient.

has anyone been accepted for this card with adverse credit history? ie default, or CCJ (older than 5 years but still on credit file)

I think it would be really useful for people that have been accepted to provide an indication of their credit history
