I think it probably is genetic because I didn't get any and nor did my mum but both times I was pregnant I used bio oil religiously day and night, kept exercising (safely) and ate healthily apart from eating golden syrup out of the tin when pregnant with dd :). However I did get some on my boobs in my teenage years and you cannot see them at all now so if you do get them they do fade.

I think depends on your genes too. I got 3 stretch-marks from two sets of twins on my bump. I got one underneath each boob.
I used bio oil first time round it had just become popular. Then used a cheaper version second time.

I didn't use anything and didn't get one single stretch mark, it's all down to your skin type, the damage is so much deeper than surface level so I don't believe that anything you put on the top layer could possibly make a difference.

Just thought I'd throw my two pence in- I am currently 25 weeks pregnant with my first - I had stretch marks in puberty on my hips and currently seem to have developed them on my boobs so I expect they will appear on my bump soon :-( although I ashamedly admit to buying Silderm (£30 odd for 120ml!!!) as it had the tagline the only clinically proven stretch mark prevention oil - I am a marketers dream

It really depends. Your mum's experience could give a hint to you. If she didn't get any then you are very unlikely to get any.

I used body oil for several years even if I was not pregnant and during my pregnancy I used the ones WITHOUT rose oil at all but I still have some stretch marks, cus my baby was big. I did not put on too much weight, but got really big bump. So those oils did not save me from stretch marks, but it will reduce the itching feeling. If you want to use some oils, make sure it HAS NOTgot any rose oil at all! Olive or grapeseed oil will do. Good Luck.

I used nothing (occasionally some oil last time but that was more to moisturise than try and prevent stretchmarks)

4kids no stretchmarks - you either have the skin that stretches without marks or not
