Stretch marks from bump?

Hi all,

I'm 10 weeks pregnant and wanted some advice about preventing stretch marks. It seems some people are sceptical whether any creams/oils make a difference, but I will be using something.

So, when did you start moisturising - how many weeks and pre or post bump appearing?

What did you use oil, cream, butter?

What brand?

Did it work?

Thanks!!

Firstly congratulations! I'm currently pregnant - 38 weeks tomorrow & I moisturise morning & night & in between if my skin feels tight. I use what ever I have to hand. I've purchased bio oil & cheaper versions as well as just every day moisturisers. As long as you keep applying I think it helps no matter what you use.

I've got two stretch marks from my first pregnancy & I have two more on the other side this time. So I'm all matching now! Lol! They do fade so try not to worry about them to much. I would just say that alot of stretch marks can't be seen when you are pregnant by looking down at your bump...I put a mirror on the bed & look at the underneath of my bump to see mine. I'd never know they were there else.

Good luck with your pregnancy. :)

I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!

Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:

I think some it's down to your genes myself. My mum didn't use any creams or anything, had 2 children and has no stretch marks. My MIL had 2 children and says she has loads, but apparently used all sorts to try to prevent them.

I got to about 7 months gone and thought I was looking massive (I'd got no marks though) so thought I'd use some cream, cos it couldn't hurt. I ended up without marks either, even though I put on 2.5 stone when pregnant.

It can't hurt to use cream, but if your genes dictate your likely to get them, I don;t think you can do anything about it. I used that cocoa butter, think it's by a company called Palmers.

I used a cheap-ish anti-stretchmark moisturiser from Boots from about 20 weeks pregnant, and applied it when I remembered, from about 20 weeks.

I was 9 stone before pregnancy, put on 2.5 stone, and have no stretch marks whatsoever. I think it was the exercise that helped rather than the moisturiser, as I did 30+ minute walks every day, and kept up the aerobics class until 35 weeks.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I used palmers cocoa butter. It's like lard, but one tub lasted my entire pregnancy both times, and I didn't get any stretch marks. I was very skinny and my skin felt very tight very early. I used the butter every day and when my skin felt tight, and it must have worked.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I didnt use anything other than oil in my bath, easier than rubbing in creams, any oil will do, grapeseed, olive, coconut, wheatgerm.

I have 3 children and only got my first one with my last baby.

Where your stretch marks with pride, I say. Your body shows all that it has gone though with its scars! Personally i am more concerned with the fact that I will never be the same again down below! The lack of pelvic floor and the piles are much more a concern and my section scar is non too pretty! I do have 2 beautiful children though!:)

oils and creams can help but only very slightly as stretch marks are quite a few skin layers deep and oils/cream only work on the top few layers.
if youre going to get them, then youll get them im afraid

I thought it was genetic. My Mum didn't get any and neither did I (and I was humungous!). I didn't use any cream. Can't hurt to use creams though.

I don't think rubbing cream in can actually stop stretchmarks developing although it can make the skin feel more comfortable to keep it moisturized. I think it is a matter of luck whether you get stretchmarks, so other than not putting on excess weight you can't do a lot. This is one time when it can be an advantage to not have been slim all of your life, as it is often young slim women whose skin is taughter that get stretchmarks as the skin has to stretch rapidly.
