I don't think the OR would be happy that you took on more credit when you knew you were insolvent, I fear a punishment would be in order.
I cannot remember your position, but just stop paying all your loans, credit cards and mortgage. Ensure you pay your council tax and if you can your utilities and save , save and save some more.0 -

Maizy, as far as I know, and I am by no means an expert, but if you have saved in order to move and use the funds to move, the OR wont take that money - you need to prove what you have done, and where the money has gone (ie a blow by blow account of fees and charges for moving) then the OR is usually fine, as its part and parcel of going BR for many people. Where did you get your advice from? I spoke with the CCCS and they have a specialist BR Suppor Team, and once they recommended BR to me, they gave me the number of he support team, and I contacted them with a few BR specific questions and they were brilliant.
By the way Maizy, glad you are still here and all that 'stuff' hasnt sent you away! x'Don't judge me 'till you have walked a mile in my shoes'0 -
I would challenege the letting agent who told you it was 'law' for them to carry out the credit checks, it's more likely to be a combination of a condition of their insurance and their own rules and regs.
Have you tried a web search for your area/county and 'private lettings' or 'landlord direct lettings' to see if there's any local website? There are a number of private letting sites which have searches available by area, or there's always the Freeads! In my village there's quite a few landlords that only ever advertise in the post office window, never anywhere else. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I agree with Ineedaname about your approach to market.
By going to the 'five biggest estate agents' you are looking from the top downwards.
You need to be looking from the bottom upwards.
There is nothing to stop a private landlord renting you his property on the simple basis that he likes the cut of your jib, and is fairly sure you will pay the rent.
Some landlords do still operate in this way, and I'd be surprised if there are none in your area.
Is there a university nearby?
I know you don't want a student flat, but the university's accommodation office will have a list of private landlords, and might even be able to suggest a couple who also let houses to families.0 -
