also what were they thinking having a debit card registered to the ipod if they were letting their teen use it.

Both my under 16's have my debit card registered to their ipod. They want an app, they ask me, pay me then download it. It can work.

But sounds as though this is a much younger child.

The email response from Apple OP has posted on page 3 of that thread is pretty much identical to the one I got today, and they are refunding me too.

Exactly the same as our 14 year old, he will ask even if it's only 59p if it's OK to buy, we don't mind paying but he must always ask first.

As you say we don't know how old the child in question is, under 16 is very vague, but whilst our son can (like most teenagers) do some stupid things without thinking of the consequences, there is no way he would spend £150 of our money without asking.

I don't think they stand a chance of a refund, but for future reference, tell them to delete their card details from their account.

That way, they can only download free stuff.

Tbh, apple seem less than caring over security issues, so I don't feel happy leaving my card details in their hands anyway - they seem to have a lot of hacked accounts.

As far as I know it isn't possible to open an a/c without providing card details. I've always thought this very dodgy.

You can open an account without supplying card details. We did! It is not obvious though and far easier just to put a card details in as part of the registration process.

It's certainly worth a try for the refund. I once bought an app by mistake (got the iPhone version instead of the iPad version) and I was given a "one off" refund, no probs. However, I'd want to know whether the kid did it accidentally, or did it on purpose. That would make a big difference over whether they were punished or not.

Yes it is. It is easier to open an account with a card then delete the card details though.
I don't ever put my card details on iTunes, if I want to buy stuff I get iTunes vouchers when they are on offer, they're quite often at least 1/3 off so it works out cheaper.
