moving overseas
Hiya im moving overseas next month and I have a phone contract and pay £40 a month and it doesn't expire until August 2012.
I don't fancy paying this every month for the next 15 months and I cant even use it. I telephoned my phone company and they said there is nothing they can do, is there anyone can give me ?
Thanks

If you don't care about your credit history, just move and take the phone with you.
If you do care, sell the phone, add money and pay.0 -
Its not your mobile providers fault you are moving overseas, its still a valid contract and its legally binding.
You will have to pay off your contract with the early termination charges unless you want your credit rating ruined for when you return to the UK.
You could enquire about doing a Change of Ownership where someone takes over the contract and continued with the repayments. A little cashback incentive from you could help there.0 -
the phone is only woth about £30, if I just move and cancel my direct debit what will they do? my parents will be still living at the address my contract is signed to0

If you just leave it your credit file will be trashed for the next 6 years, and you could have collection agents knocking on the door of any address they have for you.
Do you want that for your parents? They'll probably have to prove to them that you no longer live there (just saying 'he doesn't live here any more' won't wash with these people).0 -
my credit rating in poor anyway0

Bailiffs will be knocking on the door of your parents house.
Surely you are not considering putting them through that.0 -
if im not at that address surley they cant do anything0
-
Look at the scenario.
Your parents are being pestured by Bailiffs, there are letters, including a CCJ being served in your name going to your parents house.
It doesnt work out for you overseas, you wish to return to the UK.
You cannot get a mortgage or any form of credit.
Pay up the contract and move overseas with a clear conscience.0 -
it would cost me £600 to do that not got that kind of money0

Kisle you have 2 options;
1) Take your phone with you leading to your credit rating being worse then it currently is and have baliffs harrasing your parents.
2) Pay up
What i dont understand is why did you take out such a long contract, if you knew there was a chance of you leaving the country?0
