I agree with CPN; these things are to enable us to do as many "normal" things as possible. It doesn't stop me feeling guilty for using concessions, but I also strongly feel they is we don't use them, they can easily be taken away under the excuse that there is "no demand" for them.
A bit like walking aids, in a sense. They enable us to live more freely. I have a walking stick at the moment but my OH and I are thinking that it might be useful to get a wheelchair for those days walking causes so much pain and exhaustion. We'll get it when we move out though.OH's parents aren't the most understanding of people.:o2019 Wins

Just to say i know what you mean about feeling weird about concessions. My psych persuaded me to apply for a bus pass and i put it off for ages as felt weird about it but she told me there wouldn't be a specific mh bus pass if it wasn't needed by people and that i have a "severe mental illness" so was eligible. I know its not quite the same thing but these things are in place to make life that little bit easier

LM your quite slight arnt you?
loaner wheelchairs are always standard size, 18x18 and they swamp smaller people and they never come with cushions because they get nicked and decent wheelchair cushions cost a canny bit (my latest is nearly £500) so it might be a good idea to take a cushion with you to make yourself comfee, I find being uncomfortable= more pain and that it takes me more time to get over "big" outings, I dont know if its the same for you but I think its a disability thing and not a specific disability.
I hope that you have a great day out and the payback isnt to bad for you.0 -

Hey Sunnyone.
Yes I am.:) Small and short. :rotfl:
I never really thought of the cushion thing and it's an ingenious idea! Can you tell that I've never done this before?
It definitely is the same for me. I try to do all I can to make myself comfortable because being uncomfy just makes the pain even worse.
Thank you.
I'm looking forward to being somewhere different to just the town centre. Whenever I'm having a better (albeit still bad) day we usually just go into town. I really want to do more worthwhile things on my better days but it's only recently that I've had to give in and even think about a wheelchair.
One of my friends said that she'd wish she had given in and got a wheelchair when she was of moderate severity because she feels it would have given her more independence and maybe haulted the M.E abit. I'm not sure how true that is but I just want to be able to keep as much independence as I can and try to do normal things.
I'm really sorry for the essay.
I always go off on a tangent.

LM do you have an electric wheelchair to help you?
I have a small purple one for small adults/teen.. It's for sale
I know how frustrating having to use shop wheelchair can be, especially if you get somewhere that says they have them to find they have all been pinched

I don't.
I've never even used a manual wheelchair before and someone said it's easier to use a manual one and then go to an electric one?
Purple is my fav colour.
How much are you selling it for? It's very tempting...
OH says to get one when we move out though because we live with his parents at the moment.
