ideas for front door sign now i have new baby

  • i am looking for suggestions of how to not be rude but to prevent unwanted visitors now i have new baby. someone knocked a few mins ago while i was feeding so i rushed to the door and baby was sick. i dont know who the visitor was as they had gone when i got to the door. i dont mind the postman knocking and would prefer if they allowed an extra min to get to the door.

You can get cordless intercom systems so you could speak to the person at the door and tell them to wait or go away as appliccable. Tend to be a bit pricey though, especially if baby decides to puke/poo over it.

The neighbours who are out all day for whom you take in parcels might turn out to be evening babysitters of the future.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • I found answering the door while holding my 5ft corn snake had a miraculous effect on unwanted callers. She's so laid back it's ridiculous, but I didn't tell them that.

If you've put a notice up then I really wouldn't worry about answering the door - if it's important people will either leave a note or call back.

Some good ideas for notices. One of our neighbours has a list:

    No Cold Callers

We are happy with our religion and do not wish to convert

    We research our utilities online

We do not give out information at the door

We welcome post and genuine delivery people. Otherwise DON'T KNOCK!

Only trouble is, the visitors have to actually get close to the front door to read it all :rotfl: I keep meaning to make a sign, it's on my To Do list somewhere :o I cannot bring myself to shut the door in someones face (I need to toughen up!)

My buggest bugbear is the children.....if the door goes they HAVE to rush to either the door or the window to see who it is (nosey wee blighters!) which of course gives away the fact that I am in. Pffft.

Same here, what I do is go in the hallway and loudly tell my son to go and play and that we do not open the door to strangers. With that, they usually leave.

Martin has a free "No Cold Callers" sign on this website at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/no-more-junk . Won't stop the postman, though.

I tend to ignore the door, the postman usually comes at around the same time each day so I'll answer that, but unless I'm expecting a delivery I won't answer. I always check out of the window just in case, and I haven't missed anything important yet!

My parents have that 'No Cold Callers' MSE sign that PP mentioned, and it's definitely cut down the annoyances for them, they were forever getting gas & electricity reps trying to get them to switch but they now have to obey the sign.

Or just don't answer the door because you're busy? It would never have occurred to me to put a sign up when I brought my new baby home - but then my philosophy about my door, my phone etc is, just because someone is knocking/calling, doesn't mean I have to answer.

Seriously, if you're feeding baby and the doorbell goes, just keep doing what you're doing. Its not going to be a life-changing experience opening the door, if its important they'll call back/leave a note.

i know, i cant even believe the question to be honest. i hardly ever answer the door and rarely answer the phone. we have caller display so the phone gets picked up to friends and family only and thats if im free to talk. we have voicemail so im sure if its important they will leave a message

I have recently put a no uninvited callers sign on my door hoping this would work. I was just feeding my baby before bed tonight at 9pm and I had a knock/ring at the door. I asked them to wait a moment while I made myself decent only to find a RSPCA reperesentative at the door.
I was annoyed and told him I was feeding and sent him away. I am sorry that I was rude but I had hoped that my sign explained to callers that I do not want to be disturbed. Does this apply to charity collectors as well. I dont mean to be rude. Do I need to to put a further note on my door to exclude any unwanted callers.

    I would appreciate your comments.

What is the problem with NOT answering the door? Especially at 9pm? Don't you think you are creating a problem for yourself by being a slave to door callers?

I can promise you that there is no law that says that if someone knocks on the door, you have to answer them! ;) Indeed, somebody knocked twice on my door on Sunday and I ignored them. I have not been arrested or branded a bad neighbour :rotfl::rotfl:

Ignore them, same with the phone. If it's important they'll call back.
