hi
i am looking for suggestions of how to not be rude but to prevent unwanted visitors now i have new baby. someone knocked a few mins ago while i was feeding so i rushed to the door and baby was sick. i dont know who the visitor was as they had gone when i got to the door. i dont mind the postman knocking and would prefer if they allowed an extra min to get to the door. what i dont want is people selling or couriers asking me to sign for other neighbours who are out, which happens a lot now that i am home all day.
any suggestions gratefully appreciated

Have 2 signs -
"Mother and new baby sleeping - please do not knock/ring"
and
"We're home but it may take us a minute or 2 to get to the door. Please bear with us"I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
Or just don't answer the door because you're busy? It would never have occurred to me to put a sign up when I brought my new baby home - but then my philosophy about my door, my phone etc is, just because someone is knocking/calling, doesn't mean I have to answer.
Seriously, if you're feeding baby and the doorbell goes, just keep doing what you're doing. Its not going to be a life-changing experience opening the door, if its important they'll call back/leave a note.0 -
My family just come in so I don't have to bother with them.. anyone else knocking I can see through the window if it is a parcel/postman and I will get to the door eventually and the know to wait for me.. and if I miss them so what I'll arrange redelivery!
Anyone else can be ignored.. I have seen stickers in windows saying 'no junk mail, no salespersons, no religious callers'LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I used to have a sign on the door when I worked nights. It was a warning to my kids friends and anyone else who ignored it at their peril because I was not a pleasant sight and was generally in a very bad mood if I had been woken from my sleep during the day. I worded mine quite strongly as the previous one had been ignored. Now it takes me an age to get to the door as Im disabled but generally the delivery people wait and anyone else is not important:oI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
My fav would be "bugg3r off I am breast feeding."

i like this. thanks for all the replies. the postman rings a lot for post as we have a narrow letter box.
hopefully this will work :j0 -
Good luck, I'm the only "stay at home" in my street so the postman knocks nearly every day for me to sign for things for other people which I've never minded but when our youngest was born it drove me bonkers for a while (although think our postman is now entirely breastfeeding friendly as if he had any insecurities or embarassment about talking to nursing mothers before he certainly had to overcome it fast as I've often signed for things one handed with baby on boob LOL):j BSC #101 :j0

I'd just not answer the door!
Anyone who knows us is aware that we use the back door, so if anyone is at the front door it's either someone trying to sell us something or someone trying to convert me!:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

It might depend on your region but where I am the local police will send you, without charge, a notice to put on your front door complete with the force's emblem that you will not buy or sell to callers at the door and you do not want any unsolicited visits from strangers. Maybe see if your local police do the same?
I really have no patience for people calling at my door to sell some crap, or collect for some cause, or survey me, or ask about my fuel providers etc. so I don't really care whether they consider the notice rude or not.0 -
We have one of those notices, but it doesn't stop JWs, Mormons, double glazing renewal, carpet cleaning, landscape gardeners etc knocking. I would ignore the knocks if it is not convenient. We also have a doorbell which nobody ever uses. I might answer that as a reward for someone noticing it, LOL.0
