    I . . . am from Scotland.

. . . I spoke to my line manager who confirmed that they are all at the top of the pay scale for the job position (currently £22,000-£32,000).

    . . .

I am charged out at a day rate the same as the top paid employees.

    . . .

I'm not sure what your being a Scot has to do with this - unless you are suggesting discrimination on the grounds of nationality!

I didn't think managers discussed the pay of staff with other members of their team.

What sort of work do you do that gets charged out? To whom are you charged out?

I earn 23,800 with an additional 3k per year added on from tendering work that I do seperately. I work in procurement and am charged out at a day rate for work that we do for other councils, the NHS and local government.

The council is currently going through modernising pay. I have been passed as a grade 6 and everyone else a 7 despite my job description not differing at all from the other employees and my manager confirms that no one has ever spoken to her about my job description so someone from the management team must have assumed that my work differs.

I was not aware that the other employees were grade 7 until speaking to this lady from the office.

Wanted to point out that I was happy with my grading (grade 6) and everything was fine until I founf out that the trainees appealed their grading (grade 5) and won and are now on grade 6 which is the same as me.

From your first post I thought you were all on the same grade and thought that the range was wide. But you aren't on the same grade.

If you really have exactly the same job descriptions, then the first thing is to get a proper job evaluation done. If your job is then assessed as Grade 7, you will move up. (Of course if it is still grade 6 the others would probably still have their pay protected.)

TBH for your wage and experience that is a really good wage for public sector, if you are.

Lol! How do you know what my experience is? And your comment about it being a good wage for my age is exactly my point. It shouldn't be about my age. It should be about my abilities, experience and the work carried out.

We definitely carry out the same work and have the same job title. It is too late for me to appeal my grade and ask for my job description to be re-evaluted as the time for appealing has closed.

Had I realised that I was a whole grade less than the others, I certainly would have. Do you think it's too late to do anything about it now. Not through modernising pay but through my management team?

Thanks for this. You seem to be very knowledgeable about the process x

You are 22, so unless you've suddenly started ageing backwards etc. then your age will show how much experience you have had.

And you don't carry out the same work according to your first post? So which is it? (unless you now aren't talking about trainees?)

What's the pay scales for both grade 6 and 7?

How can the time scale for appealing about the job evaluation be closed when you weren't aware that other members of your team doing the same role had been given a higher grade than yourself?

You need to put a grievance in ASAP about this stating that you have been employed at a lower grade for the same role and you have been told that the time for appealing has closed, so this is your only recourse to equivalence.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
