Well surprise surprise I'm still torturing myself over this decision
.... can't decide what to do for the best...the easiest thing seems to just go in and keep taking the flack....which seems like madness in itself...
I'll move to a different strategy...
opinions required
What would you do in my place? x0 -
OP my heart goes out to you.
First I would record any behaviour which you perceive to be bullying/harrassment.
And any visits to the GP due to stress.
Also I would contact ACAS and Citizens Advice. You may indeed have a case under Disability Discrimination.

Good luck.0 -
Whilst I totally understand any decision has financial implications, I personally feel that if you try to stick it out there that there is a possibility that your MH could be damaged further and return you to the place you were in the past? That could entail long-term sick leave and another fight to regain wellness iyswim.
I think you have been put in a position where working there is ALREADY damaging your health and I strongly feel that you need to take sick leave to preserve your health at all costs. I am glad you have a supportive doctor backing you up.
I, too, have been the victim of bullying in the workplace before and it is truly horrendous and eventually impacts on every part of your life. It simply isn't worth it.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break

Is this bully male or female?
The fact that they own the company just makes it worse - sound like they think very little of their staff.
I would definately consulate an employment lawyer - better still a notice in the local paper about what a nasty piece of work they are.
I worked, hard, for 7yrs - then I needed a change in my hours due to lack of childcare, I was told NO WAY
Then a few months later my boss advertises a position with the the exact hours I wanted - still I get told NO WAY
So I put my grievance in writing, he didn't even bother to reply. I went to an employment lawyer and explained what was happening.
Again I but my complaint in writing, stating that he was giving me little choice but to seek alternative employment.
My bosses reply was to remember that I had to give 1 weeks notice per year of employment!
So I gave him 7 weeks notice stating that this was a direct result of him refusing to give me a change in hours. He then changed his tune but by then i'd found another job, so I still left.
I sued for constructive dismissal, and I won.
The sad thing is that a few months after I left, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
The sick thing is he joked with someone that I'd saved him sick-pay!
My point to you is, that even if you leave, someone else will take your place, and they too will suffer. YOU HAVE TO STOP THIS PERSON.0 -

He sounds like a real nasty piece of work, it never ceases to amaze me how some of these bullies get these high powered jobs. At least you stood your ground and won your case in the end, fair play to you.
I hope your health improves.0 -
Someone treats me like that, I give em some slack but I won't be walked all over..... Being down trodden affects your work and your health and NOBODY has that power over me!
The boss, he acts like a king... But a King of what? where's his crown? out in the street he's a nobody, he's insignificant.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I like your thoughts, I had a similar thought...
I protect my body from chemicals, don't drink to excess, never done drugs, cigarettes, no self-harm, no piercings, tattoos
avoid dangerous situations, don't take unnecessary risks with body, mind or soul...
yet I continued to subject myself to the tirades and behaviour of another... doesn't add up really does it....
gotta look after me I think x0 -
Oh and a great trick for these people... When they're gobbing off at you, look at the top of their head (not the eye's) and smile. If anyone has ever done this to you, you'll know just how un-nerving it is and if they ask what your looking at, see my previous post

Bullies don't change. If it is affecting your health then you need to be out of there. If he's mouthing off the looking at forehead and smiling inanely is one way of dealing with it. Alternatively ignore him. When he's finished jumping up and down and yelling like a baby, calmly tell him you will not be spoken to in that manner and if he wants to explain deficiencies in your work then he can discuss it calmly, without shouting, like a professional manager should.
If he is the boss you don't have anyone further up to argue with so it is a waste of time doing grievances or doing formal complaints. Get another job. Life is too short to put up with bad bosses.0
