For anyone thinking of getting the Susan Riemer book, I went to Lakeland yesterday and they don't stock it any more, but i was able to buy it in Waterstone's. Looking forward to trying it, but think I'll wait until it's not so hot!

Ive just done a search and reserved it at my library ready for when it gets back in stock. Cant wait to try some of the recipes, i do love cooking. Can anyone point me in the right direction now where i can get some willpower!! I need to lose quite a bit of weight and having this sort of thing around is too tempting. Thats half the reason i asked about how to freeze them as if they are sitting around i just grab one and eat and before you know it youve eaten a whole lot more.

I'm always amazed by how much other people are impressed by a bit of home baking. They always think it takes ages and some kind of special skill.I bake for my school's 'healthy tuck shop' every week.I make flapjacks and muffins(not actually that healthy:o ) ,and all the other mums think I'm some kind of domestic goddess...........maybe I am:rotfl:

I find that too, that when people see youve made something that looks just as good as the shops if not better they say 'you didnt make that did you, well how did you do that as good as that, i couldnt do it'.
I used to like getting the girls when they were little to help make the cakes and beat the mix etc. Then decorating the tops with icing and making face shapes on them with smarties or any other type of sweets. Also making cookies and making shapes with the leftover pastry pieces.
I have to borrow my nieces now when i can but its still not the same as having your own.

It's such a shame that most people's idea of what a cake should look like is the shop-bought cake. These things always used to be made in the home, what has happened to us? We now expect factories to make our food.Advertising has been so successful we now think we can't cook for ourselves.

Keep baking people - you know it makes sense.
  • I made some muffins last week and I used a recipe that said to use self raising flour and baking powder. I did and they all ended up like cup cakes rather then light fluffy muffins?:o

Any advice how to get my muffins to rise? It'll be much appreciated as I'd like to get them perfect for Christmas presents this year!:p

    Thank you!!:D

  • I use this basic recipe, comes out perfect every time despite my ineptitude in the kitchen :D I usually just add spices and fruit/nuts as i have them for brekkie, but you could as whatever you want :) (though having said that the other night i replaced 35g of flour with cocoa powder and added 120g of chocolate chunks... mmmm ;) )
