In all likelihood you've got USB 2 which is fine, as for the camera, I can't find any specs for it on t'internet so I don't know. But if it is only USB 1 then it's appalling for a video camera. You're essentially right that it definitely shouldn't be this much hassle for you.

By the sounds of it, your current one wouldn't be friendly to any of us. The Gadget Show's a fun programme to watch anyway, so good advice from Albertross as usual. Are the movies you have on SD card or the internal memory? If on the SD cards then you may as well keep them to retrieve with a reader or something.

Thanks SUPERSCRAPER will watch the program. I have some holiday on the internal memory (daughter meeting 'the real' snowwhite!) so abit miffed but at the end of the day we are going back to Paris an January again and we will be more prepared this time.
When I logged off here earlier I tried again, I got an empty sd card and put 7 seconds of my daughter on it and tried to get that to work. It said it was capturing and after 15 mins it still was is this normal? I gave up.
The second time with the same 7 seconds I tried a different one and that took STRAIGHT away and came up MPEG1 then I got it to come up on a little screen but it was like I was about to listen to music(all that swirls) and all I heard was my daughter but no vision. Do you think i'm getting closer?!!!!

Doesn't seem enormously complicated to me.

You can view your videos directly on the TV by playing them via the camcorder.
You can also download the files from the SD card via a card reader on to the computer. You can then view and/or edit them on the computer. Ditto with any still pictures that you take.
If you can connect the camcorder directly to the TV(via Phono leads), you can do the same with the DVD recorder. That way you can make DVD copies that you can share with anyone.
I'm assuming that you can connect it directly to a TV, as in the specifications it is written TV OUT.
    Easy.
