Tesco Pricing Policy

This has all been discussed before, and I'm aware all the supermarkets are as bad as each other (or are they?), but Tesco really take the biscuit.
Tesco baked beans in tomato sauce 420g, took a bit of time to find the price on the shelf, gobsmacked when I did. Cost 30p per can, and a pre packaged 4 x 420g pack cost.........£1.68p. Buy more, pay more
Now, who are these gormless shoppers, who fail to notice that buying the 4 pack will seriously RIP THEM OFF, which means that Tesco continue to treat their shoppers as if we are ALL stupid, and price numerous products in the same manner.
My shopping just takes longer as I have to check every little thing. If Asda or Sainsbury are any better please say so, I can always shop there instead.

Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Nope. They are all the same.
Two conclusions: Deliberate rip-offs, or incompetant stock managment.
I have noticed that Tesco seems to be the worst though. Deliberate misleading prices.
i.e. (In case of being sued) Brand A crisps (dearer) in a large floor standing crate, with a big price ticket on for brand B crisps. (Cheaper)
Reported this to customer services, and for the next two weeks it remained unchanged.
There is commonly the wrong price ticket on products, and if you don't read the text as well as the price, you end up paying more for something.0 -

I really don't think the supermarkets do this deliberately.
It's just that they have so many offers on so many products with so many packaging variations that they do not manage to ensure everything is logical.
They should probably invest in some software that would automatically do a sanity check on prices to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen.
For some months now I've been benefiting from one of these anomalies which enables me to buy two half size products for less than the price of the larger pack size which gives me a fresher product.
At some point, no doubt, (probably next time there is a price rise), someone will notice and rectify the anomaly. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

It depends on the item in question, on many occasions there may be an offer on the individual items whereas the 4 pack may have a set price. Clearly this wont always relate to the individual price and it is all down to clearing excess stock. There are various reasons for this really.0 -

just buy 4 single cans then,0 -
Well perhaps I'm one of those gormless shoppers as I have to admit I don't check every single time that I buy a multipack that it works out cheaper than buying single items.
I like to do my supermarket shopping as quickly as possible!!
I've noticed it a few times in the past but maybe I will look out for it in future.0 -
Anyone out there looking for Cat food - buy whiskas tans singly rather than multi-packs - 50 or 53p a tin singly, 3.50 for 6...0
-
I did notice that in store baked rolls have gone up about 10p... darn this BBQ weather!!!

On the other hand... Whiskers cat food pouches are on offer at the moment.... I usally buy a 48 bumper pack which is just under £14, but their 12 packs are £3 each at the moment... so we brought 4 of those instead!
Yay... "Every little helps" 0 -
I was in Tesco at Newton Aycliffe today (for my sins) and picked up two packs of the Coco Pops that were advertised as "better than half price" at £1.33 per pack. These were piled at the end of an aisle in the usual way they do their promo's.
As I walked down the cereals aisle I noticed a shelf edge label that was for the same product with a price of £2.
After a discussion with the duty manager I was given a "double the difference" refund.
My case was that if the product was £2 before the new promo kicked in then the current price should be no more than 99p.
Clearly what they have actually done is inflate the price to make the customer think they are getting something thay are not.
I spot these little things regularly in there but fortunately I do not do not do the bulk of my grocery shop in there.
Robbing stewards that they are.:mad:0 -
Agree with most comments here, they do this too often for it to be a harmless mistake. It takes me ages to do my shop too as I have to compare the prices of everything.0
