Hi, just popped in to say hello.
Am very jealous of your Clarke's bargains! I couldnt believe the cost of kitting out DSx2 with all the school required. School shoes, indoor trainers, outdoor trainers, Wellies and football boots for the older one. To add insult to injury, DS1 never wore the darn boots and has now outgrown them. Will be pristine for DS2 I suppose..."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0 -

No no no - don't apologise. I love it.
Nothing much to report here - as usual life has got busy now term has started and I have less time for posting on here. It's only going to get busier, too - Y12 coursework and Y11 mock GCSEs just about to start, so marking mountain coming my way.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Managed to move £600 across into my savings account. I've put some big planned spends on my CC recently, though, so some money will probably have to come back out of the savings account in time for the CC DD at the beginning of next month. Definitely not all of it, though, so that's progress.
Been putting yet more thought into the ISA question. I've been agonising about how much to put in when we get to March. Obviously the more I put in the better from the tax-free point of view, but I've been trying to work out how much I'm likely to need in more accessible savings to see me through the first few months of the new tax year until I've had a chance to build my day to day savings back up again. And then I realised I was being silly. I should just put it all in the ISA in March. If I have to take a bit back out in May, I'll be no worse off than if I hadn't put that bit in to start with.
That still leaves some decisions about how much to put in the ISA and how much to OP on FL1 and FL2. The house is going to need quite a bit of money on maintenance soon, so that'll have to be factored in. Still got some thinking to do about that. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.
Hope everyone is OK and has been enjoying the snow rather than cursing it. :snow_grinStarting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Good luck with the marking Lois
Am slightly enjoying the snow but worrying a bit about it impacting on a busy week next week!! - still, cant do much about it!
At least staying snuggled up in the warm with a cuppa is giving me some time to catch up on diaries!
No idea about the ISAs Im afraid- I would think its a false economy to save money you know you might need access to (say in a year or two fix) as then you lose all the interest (I think!) by making withdrawals!
Sure someone else will come along with a better thought - out financial answer tho! :rotfl:0 -
Thanks TYO. I'm not intending to fix, so that's not the issue. It's more that once I've put money into the ISA, I don't want to get it out again because then you lose that bit of tax exemption. But if I don't put it in before 5th April, then I don't get that bit of tax exemption anyway, so I'm no better off than if I put it in and take it out again.
That's probably as clear as mud. Sorry. I am not feeling very articulate today. Martin's already explained it with his cake and cling film analogy anyway.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Tired tonight. Wanted to feed the family something that didn't take much effort to cook. Got some chicken portions out the freezer, nuked them and finished in the oven, and did pasta (which the kids love and much prefer to potatoes) and carrots. Uninspired, but quick and not too expensive.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

I suspect that it was lunch duty that sparked off the phrase "no such thing as a free lunch"... Don't know what age you teach, but lunch duty looks hard work to me!"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0
