    Thanks stclair.

Thing is if AVU pull it it won't matter if I go to branch will it? I will sign and return, search already done so nothing to lose :)

Last one read as follows -

We will, if appropriate, register you for Anytime Banking, our internet and telephone banking services.! We will send you more details, together with the information you need to start using these services, once your account is open.

To carry out your request we will need to send you all the relevant documents.

    Next steps

You will receive your application pack in the post in the next few days.
Follow the instructions in the covering letter in your pack.
Check and sign the application form.
Return, as soon as possible, all relevant paperwork, including original copies of any paperwork we ask for, in the prepaid envelope.
Once we have received your documents we will consider your application and write to you with our decision.
    We're here to help

No it wont make any difference if you go into branch to complete the application even if AVU wanna nose round.

The worst that can happen is that you get declined fingers and toes crossed that wont happen in your case :D.

Any one on the forum heard of or had any experience of Secured trust Banking, they offer a basic managed account with prepaid Mastercard.

Im sure there very good however you have to pay a £12.50 monthly fee. I would only possibly approach them as a last resort.

Maybe try co op or barclays if you require a basic bank account.

    Hi

I am new on here so pls excuse me if this has already been posted.

I went bankrupt 2 1/2 years ago and am now discharged. Anyway i am slowly trying to rebuild my credit file and have managed to get a capital one credit card with £500 credit limit and a contracted phone with 3; however bank accounts seem to be the hardest???? Why is this?

I have an easycash account with Halifax and was looking to upgrade to a normal bank account. I don’t even want an O/D or chq book just a Visa debit card.

Today i had an appointment in a Barclays branch after i was declined for a current account. I noticed on their website it mentioned the cashcard account which came with a visa debit card, excellent i thought.

I made an appointment with a personal banker and went in today to apply for the account; the guy had the computer screen facing me so we could both see it as he was filling in my details.

It then came up with my name and what looked like my application i had made on line about a month before and said let’s check why the declined it, when he clicked in to it i could see at the bottom of the screed in big letters CIFAS and fraud warning, i was horrified, with this the PB quickly turned the screen away and said was i aware that Barclays can refuse applications and don’t have to open accounts blah blah blah, he was a really nice guy and i questioned what i had seen, he advised me that i shouldn’t have seen it.

From reading other post on here i understand making lots of applications is very negative on your credit file, the thing is i have applied for nearly every bank account in the last 3 months out of frustration, do you think that this is the reason I’m really confused and worried can anyone help and what should i do?
Do Barclays have to tell me why it’s there?

    Many thanks guys

There are different types of CIFAS, you are best to get a copy of your credit file, It usually tells you what kind of CIFAS your under and who put the marker on.

it stays on for 13 months. Unless its really serious and your under investigation for serious fraud then there will be no mention of it at all

Is no mention of CIFAS on my credit file, it just says no data to report

I have downloaded a form from CIFAS tonight to get a copy of the records they hold
  • Hi,

I need to get a basic bank account and wanted advice as to the best bank.

I need it quite quickly as I am currently with Santander who have took several hundreds pounds worth of charges out and made me overdrawn. I get paid next week and don't want my pay to go into that account so need a new one asap.

Ideally somewhere which has a debit card, online and phone banking.
I also pay bill via fast payment so somewhere that does these would great. I can't go with LTSB.

    Thanks in advance.
  • You get a Halifax cash card account online. It is Visa Electron and you can run direct debits etc from it. They also have online and phone banking.

As Halifax are connected with LTSB if I have debts with LTSB can they go into my Halifax account and take money out?
