I thought about making meusli with oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruits. By incorporating a weeks worth of the nuts, seeds etc., with the other ingredients it would give me a measurable breakfast and include the good things in the right quantities.
Has anyone done this?0 -
Pomegranate is good for reducing cholesterol as well.0

My dad claims that 25g soya protein, a bowl of porridge, bio yoghurts and oily fish daily help manage the right levels of chloresterol.0

Porridge is a definite help and oily fish like mackerel, pilchards and sardines.
Felines are my favourite

Most oat-based cereals are good - I have Jordan's crunchy oats, but I'm afraid that Twink's hobnobs may not count!
You probably need to reduce your intake of things like pastry, cakes, biscuits, nuts, animal fats like mayo / butter / lard / cream. I buy low-fat yogurt, light mayo, use little butter & no lard, we now have little pastry & few cakes with a higher intake of fruit & veg as the plant cells within them are what is used for Benecol-type drinks, to "attach" to the bad cholesterol & carry it out of your body. Oily fish is good for you generally, although there is some debate about it's merits for reducing cholesterol.
This did result in an initial reduction - my cholesterol level went from 6.4 to 5.9 so apparently I have the inherited form of high cholesterol from my mother, but as I have low blood pressure & my lipids & balance between good & bad are OK-ish, then i'm "not a worry" to my GP.0 -
Hi moanymoany,
There's an earlier thread with tips on lowering cholesterol levels that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the replies together.

It is not so much the actual number rate you are given by your GP for your cholesterol that is important....it is the ratio of HDL, LDL and Triglycerides. Unless you have all the figures, it is rather useless information that you have been given.0

I do and it is yummy. Per day around 20g oats, 10g seeds and 10g raisins although it varies a bit. Topped with about 50g yoghurt and a little drizzle of honey. I only make it by the day cos if I made 2 days worth I would keep eatingI also often add a few nuts, esp almonds...

I have the figures and my good stuff is a lower percentage of the total than it should be. I don't eat much animal fat so I am concentrating on raising the good as well as lowering the bad.0
