The OP did mention that they were friends with some of the residents even before his wife took the job. This is possibly why they feel so hard done by.

The OP has had other threads seeking advice about problems relating to his wife's employment as warden of a sheltered housing scheme.

I don't know how/if the current thread might be related to the previous threads but considering the potential seriousness of the problems raised previously, a public forum's not the ideal place for him to seek advice about his present discontents. It's obvious the full story hasn't been posted, and probably that's just as well.

Well, as he has previosuly posted no job = nowhere to live as it's a residential role - I'd suck it up and stay home! Some things are too important to gamble on a vague point of principle.

OK, a residential role. Can be trusted to live right by them. Cannot be trusted to go on an outing with them.

    In your opinion.

OPs posting history has other instances of work related probems. There is more going on here than he is telling us.

We have had it drummed into us and had serious talks about social workers struck off for being at the same night club as a service user. Due to the power difference it is unappropriate for professionals working with vulnerable adults to socialise, there needs to be boundaries in place to protect both parties. You only need to look on the community care forum to see anedotal evidence of social workers stuck off.

Really? I'm a social worker and this is news to me. I have also seen the community care forum and think we need to rely more on common sense and less on what anonymous people write on random internet forums as 'truth'. Anecdotal evidence isn't really admissable and I don't know how helpful it is to raise it.

It isn't about just 'being in the same nightclub'. It's useful to read the judgements rather than listening to too much hearsay. It isn't BEING in the nightclub - it's what you do when you are in there.

Doesn't professional boundaries training cover this? I didn't think it included official social events formally organised by the shelter, but socialising with vulnerable adults in your own time can open you up to a whole world of pain.
