afternoon!
had another productive day yesterday: managed to get 2 "emergency sewing kits" (small felt booklets sewn together with sewing accessories inside) done yesterday for mom and gran... the other part i can't talk about as its a pressie for someone who reads this board!!
today's going to be busy: got a kneewarmer to make (a shaped rice bag & holder) for my Gran's arthritic knee; christmas table runner & matching napkin rings (won't be enough material to make napkins too); lavender bags; couple more small rice bags too if i can.
then there's dinner: i've got to try to make those cheesy suet rolls (the recipe is off here somewhere) with HM wedges for dinner, but i got up this am to find the OH had raided the cheese for breakfast without telling me, and there's very little cheese left! so this is going to be interesting (the recipe calls for 5oz if i remember right, and i got, maybe 3oz). for pudding i'm going to be making some specculaas cookies - specculaas spice is an essential component of cookies and sweets eaten at Sinterklaas (the feast of St Nicholas which is a *huge* holiday in the netherlands, on tuesday (5th), OH is dutch), but i've not been able to find a definitive recipe for it. i think its one of those things that each cook has their own version of (they don't even seem to agree on the ingredients, much less the amounts!). So i found a recipe that i have the spices for in my storecupboard and i'll give it a shot later today. Might also have a shot at making pepernoten and olibollen/appelflappen on tuesday too.
anyway, best get on with it...
have a good day, everyone!

Afternoon.
Very sleepy today after being woken up 5 times by baby between midnight and 7am. He wasn't this bad when new born.
Managed to buy a sling with the vouchers someone gave us yesterday. Still need to try that out. Plus, DH and i had a meander around the shops, ate out at KFC, then shared some wine and a bag of minstrels in front of the telly last night. Also had a major breakthrough as baby had the first bath he has enjoyed. Normally he screams so much he is in, out and ready for bed in less than 10 minutes, but that was nearer 20.
Todays been a bit slower. My friend from work visited with her daughter, who had brought us some mince pies she made at school, which were delicious. One load has been through the WM, and DH dealt with tidying the kitchen/putting out recycling/compost/ washing up this morning while i fed the baby.
Other than that some chicken breasts are defrosting for dinner, and i plan to wash my hair, and tackle some ironing today, though not at the same time. Got to do these jobs while DH is in so i can leave the baby without worrying.
Tomorrow i've got to go for a bridesmaids dress fitting for my sisters wedding. Wish i hadn't scoffed them minstrels and mince pies now.
Have a restful weekend everyone.

Afternoon Guys!
Had a chilling morning. DD & I still in Pjs:o ...but I dont care:p
Yesterday went well and we all saw off our friend well:D He would have been proud:eek:    ...anyway, Im sure he must have been smiling at us-especially when we were talking about our memories of him. I always used to call him slaphead..coz he was bald. I miss him!
DW is on ATM, SIL did another washload for us, toilet cleaned and house pretty tidy. DD has to do her bedroom in a bit...she is so messy, but if her room isnt tidy, her pocket money will be deducted;)
Won a beautiful cheese dish/plate and knife set off ebay. Its a Oneilda one and have seen them in the shops for £55+...I won for £16 inc postage. Still BN in box. I know we dont need one as such but we often have cheese/wine/biccies if friends pop in or even of an evening sometimes...if we're feeling posh:rotfl: excellent find. Same guy is selling them for £30 +£10 postage, so probably not too happy. On the other hand, I have had a very good run of selling on Ebay and have made a tidy sum. Our cooker is on last legs, so with the proceeds of sales last month it went towards a new Cooker and nice hob and I needed to put just £44 to it.....bargain!
All Xmas pressies bought now and have saved quite alot shopping around, using vouchers etc from here and still had a load of sale items from January. Probably at most spent £200 and thats with DD's main pressy and games to go with it. All food is basically bought and some nice luxuries got:D OH bought some of the sherry from Lidls at £2.99 as is very nice..think I might use some for the Xmas cake
I feel the cold alot, so OH were discussing earlier if it would make more sense to have nets and curtains in the lounge. We currently have wooden blinds, which are cold and a dust trap, but have seen some lovely nets on Ebay that we like-so thinking about buying and seeing what they look like under the blinds...sounds horrible but think it may look ok. Otherwise have seen some floor length curtains in a chocolate colour but will cost about £100, but these are fully lined and thermal backed. What do you guys think? Will nets keep the warmth in better? I wont buy till you help me:D
Breakie: Egg & Soldiers
Lunch: Leftovers from buffet yesterday
Dinner: Chicken, roasties, yorkies, cabbage, parsnips, cauliflower & peas
Anyway, OH has done a lovely dinner and it smells devine...cant wait to tuck in. Hope evryone is well and hugs to all.

Afternoon all
Not too windy here. It peaked early this morning at 32 m.p.h at around 04:15. Coolish now with outside temps around 7 deg C but windchill is taking this down to around 4 deg C now.
Lazy day I think. After getting up at 6 a.m. to feed BIG black cat and let him out I came back to bed, snuggled a warm penninewoman . . . . . and then didn't wake again until just after 12. So now am just finishing breakfast and wondering whether to try to find Christmas lights to test before stringing up outside on one of the larger bushes. Maybe I will.
Here's another local photo for those of you who're following this occasional series . . .:)Where now?0 -

Here's one from about 5 minutes from where I live last year
Excuse the car, that's why the photo was taken DP likes taking pictures of his other baby. One day I might be more organised...........

Hey everyone,
Yet another lazy day here! I'm still in my PJs too PP!! I've done nothing today except sleep and watch Take That on ITV2. After reading the thread I do feel guilty that I have done nothing household wise and for Christmas but I'm just so exhausted just now that I just can't contemplate doing anything except going to work and keeping up appearances with everyone outside the home, if that makes sense.
I probably don't have the right qualifications to post on the daily thread at the moment as my life is very un-Old Style but at least we've not resorted to takeaways or anything yet! The most I am eating is toast and crackers and cheese and the like and lots of ice cream! I know it's so important to get my vitamins and to feed the little baby, but I feel so nauseous that small meals and snacks are all I fancy just now.
OH and I are planning a VERY low key Christmas this year - I haven't handmade my Christmas cards or bought any presents or thought about our meal yet. It's the first year we'll be on our own in our house, but we are so poor just now, that it's going to be very plain. We're not having presents for each other, and just doing £5 presents for close family. For our meal, we'll likely just have a f/r roast chicken and some posh ice cream. Does that sound really sad? I'm really just looking forward to the time off work and spending some time chilling with OH. We just have NO spare cash for anything special. I so admire all of you that have been planning Christmas for so long and been so clever about your bargains (and normally this is me) but my mind has been so preoccupied recently and we're so skint, that all the normal plans have gone by the wayside.
Nelski or PP - Can I come for tea? I sooo fancy a roast today - but the thought of going out to Mr T's, preparing all the food, cooking it, then wasing up and it's just me in today and I quickly go off the idea!
Blairweech- James Martin - mmmm! I really want that cookbook!
Love to you all

Penny pincher - yes buy the curtains, you will save on the heating as another benefit, if you feel the cold you need to do all you can to save warm.
Got up early today, did ironing (huge pile), went to Tesco, have peeled and chopped veg for dinner, have done some Xmas knitting and done some wrapping. I had intended to go dog walking but the weather is foul.
We are having DD3 and SIL over for roast at 6.30 so chickens x2 are in the oven.
Sorry for moaning yesterday, I made a proper snowflake from beads all by myself yesterday afternoon so maybe I am not as c**p as I thought.
I have sold a few things on Ebay and made over £60 so far. Yipee.

Evening all.
I hope you've all had a better day than me!
So much for getting organised before Kim and Aggie get hold of me! Started off well yesterday - and then the washing machine broke down! Engineer can't come round until Thursday, but thankfully it's still under guarantee so will cost me nothing to fix.
Woke up this morning in agony due to Ladies' Day (IYSWIM...). Felt too sick to eat and acquired a massive headache to really make the occasion worthwhile. Feeling better this evening after downing the painkillers, so I'll attempt to at least do something tonight.
See! It's not MY fault I hate housework! The universe doesn't want me to do it!
