Hi all,
Just wondering where i would stand with this.
Been with sky broadband about 3 years now. Roughly 2 years ago we upgraded from 5meg (we were receiving about 2.5meg) to 10meg.
We then only received about 2 meg. After complaining they stated the line could manage 4 meg, but the next day our speed went down to 1 meg.
After complaining again it went up to 1.5meg and thats where its stayed.
I understand they may not be able to achieve 10 meg, but if they say 4 is achievable why am i still only getting 1.5?
Yes, i have micro filters and i'm using the master socket. Local exchange is 1090 meters from my street.
They no longer seem interested in doing anything for me.
Any suggestions as im getting sick of this now?
Cheers, Mark

Just threaten to leave and demand a good discount for the poor service that you have received, at least you will save some money.:money::money:0

With your line attenuation of 67db,(it represents a 4.9Km line) I'm surprised you are getting a connection at all.
Have you tried connecting to the test socket under the master socket faceplate? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Have you not noticed that they say UP TO not a definite number, it's always the magic words UPTO
thats how they get away with it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Unfortunately there is no way to get a fast broadband connection with a 4.9kilometer line, as OPs stats suggest they have. 1.5 - maybe 2 Mbps is as much as a line of that attenuation can support.

Its just possible that Sky have capped the speed to provide some stability and lifting this a bit would give a little more speed.
Routers normally try to sync with a noise margin of around 7db.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Im presuming there is no real way of improving Attenuation?
Our phone socked does not have a test port on it.0 -
Are you connecting by ethernet or by wireless?
If the latter, retest using ethernet to rule out any wireless issues.
You say you have ADSL filters, but do you have them on every active extension (this includes your Sky box if you have one)?
The test socket is behind the split faceplate on the NTE5 master socket, you need to remove the 2 screws on the lower half to access it.
Your straight line distance to the exchange may well be 1090m, but the actual cable may be miles longer, they generally follow street layouts. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I am connecting wireless, however both yield the same results.
ADSL filters are on all lines and the modem is the closest to the main socket.
Although the house is only 16 years old, our socket does not have a removable lower half, although i will go and check just to make sure.0
