Have you found out the registrar fees yet? Ours was about £250 if I remember rightly (£30 for giving notice and then a further £200+ for them coming to do the ceremony). This is paid on top of the ceremony fee your venue charges (unless they pay the registrar for you but I've never seen a venue doing this)...

No, I havent. Still waiting for the senior registrar to get in touch with Lumley! Oh my goodness that is way more than I was expecting. Will see if I can find out now, thanks x

Ouch, I was just about to say it might be less as all registrars charge different amounts. :( Is it possible to find a venue in the area of a different register (different borough council) who might have cheaper fees?

I think its disgraceful especially after all the problems im having getting them to do it at a time convenient to me. If i had cosen a weekend weeding it would have been another £100.00. Will never get a deal on venue as good as this one (beleive me ive been looking) so may just have to admit defeat on the strict £2000 budget and push it up to £2500. Really wish I didnt have to. Feel like im betraying myself, I do love my dress more than any ive ever seen ( Ian Stuart) and got a fantastic deal, but it blew my budget. So the new question is can I have my dream castle wedding for £2500?

Lupyloo I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is something written within Scottish Marriage Law that states that ceremony can only be conducted between certain hours. You might want to check this out with the Registrary office at Annan first.

    Well here is an update

Got admitted to hospital on thursday night and had emergency surgery for a burst cyst on ovary, only got home yesterday.

The really good news is that the original qoute from Lumly Castle does include registrars fees, however because I want a 5pm ceremony I will have to pay an extra £100. I am soo excited that I could burst, I will still leave budget as it is incase any more costs rise. So as from tomorrow will be back in wedding planning mode, promised doc I would rest for today. Well ive got my feet up while Im typing this so I suppose I am resting lol

    costs so far

    Wedding dress 520.00
    Castle, ceremony, food, disco 1160.00
    Paperwork £30.00
    Wedding favours 5.00

So far so good, now off to catch up on flower thread x

Does it have to be a registrar? If you're marrying in Scotland, you can also use a priest or a humanist celebrant and it will still be legal. They might be more willing to fit into your times?

Also bear in mind that there are fees to lodge your paperwork.

Sorry meant to sya before the Castle is in Durham as Scotland was just far too pricey and they were not willing to compromise on price at all. I think for what I am getting it is an excellent price. I think the fees for paperwork is £30.00 so will add this to list, thanks x

Sorry, probably should have read the thread better Ignore me.:rotfl::rotfl:

Well done on your excellent negotiation though. Wish we'd done the same thing, but the venue we fell in love with only had one date left and they would have sold it really quickly.
