Well my goodness what a day, you know when I said I was definately getting my dress from Landy, well.........can you guess what happened. tried the most amazing dress on and fell in love with it, i filled up. The girl who owns the shop used to go to school with me so offered a third of the dress, free tiara and viel worth £160.00. Then my dad and step mum said would it be ok if they paid half, how could I say no. The dress and fittings, alterations should have cost nearly £1700.00!!!! Sooooo my total outlay for the dress is £520.00, I know I shouldnt have but the dress really is amazing. Please don't shout I promise I will do better with everything else x

  • You don't have to justify your spends lupyloo! It must be so exciting getting a dress chosen...I've only got to the 'spending hours trawling the internet for pretty pictures' stage so far...I know I'll prob end up choosing something completely different when the time comes though!

You're welcome Lupyloo the lady I spoke to at Annan registry office was really helpful might be closed friday if you want to contact them (up here the with the bank holidays it's a bit hit a miss whether or not things will be open!). BE WARNED it's worth shopping around Dumfries and Galloway area for better deals on wedding related items as anything from Gretna that I've seen tends to have a mark up.

    Hi

This is where I'm having my reception. It's like a castle, but without the price tag!

Well after a phone call to Lumley Castle http://www.lumleycastle.com/ I am on cloud nine, told the most helpful wedding co-ordinators (pamela and Kirsty) exactly what I wanted and the very tight budget I had and after much rearranging of this and that we got the price down from the usual £2400.00 to £1060.00. This includes wedding ceremony with music, suite for reception, all tablecloths and chairs covered in my choice of colours, hot and cold buffet and disco. I am absolutely over the moon. However I then had to phone and check that the registrar could do the ceremony at 5.30pm, and even though she is doing another wedding at 4.00pm she was very annoyed that I had even asked her to do this! I was very polite and asked her if she might re consider as everything was relying on her, NO!! was her very abrubt answer. So I then phoned back to the castle to thank them very much but the registrar was not willing to compromise and I would have to rethink the whole thing again. Well the lovely Kirsty was having none of it and she has took it upon herself to phone the registrar to see if she can persuade her to change her mind. So as I am typing this I am waiting for the phone to ring to see which way it will all go. Please, please keep everything crossed, I just might get my dream wedding for £2000.00 after all. Thanks to everyone for the ideas and keep them coming, especially about wedding rings as that is my next big thing to sort x

    Spent so far
    Dress, veil, hoop, tiara £520.00
Venue, food, disco, service £1060 (well I,m hoping)
Wedding favours £5 (mega glitch on boots last year Soap and Glory minis for ladies and no7 for men)

Hoping to phone a college sometime today to discuss photographer, read up on how to do wedding invites myself and flowers, phew so sorry for the long post but I just cant believe it is actually happening x

Vicky that is gorgeous but states a minimum of 50 guests, but still may phone them and see what they can offer if the registrar wont budge x

  • For wedding invites, you could consider vistaprint. There's often offers for free postcards - that's what we used for our evening invites. All you pay is postage.
Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP

Have you found out the registrar fees yet? Ours was about £250 if I remember rightly (£30 for giving notice and then a further £200+ for them coming to do the ceremony). This is paid on top of the ceremony fee your venue charges (unless they pay the registrar for you but I've never seen a venue doing this)...
