anonymous call to social services reporting the abuse to the young child (loud music until 3-4am is abuse) that way no one will know it was you, also encourage neighbours to do the same0

God that letter sounds awful. Sounds really like you're lording it over them because you bought your flat (in fact lots of your post comes across like that if Im brutally honest) and will get their backs up no end.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

I actually thought your letter was quite good BottomRung- but then, we don't all think alike... (and the world would be such a boring place if we DID all think the same;)).
I agree with Yorkie1 that your local council's Environmental Health team is the way to go if you have already politely spoken to your neighbours and it's had no effect. Are you able to use a mobile 'phone or digital camera to make short recordings? Every time the drum 'n' bass kicks in, make a short recording of the time on the clock and your sleepy self (make sure your pyjamas are done up properly first!
) saying something like "It's 3.20am and this has been going on for 45 minutes now", with the delightful 21st Century chamber music audible in the background. Then save the clips to your computer and, once you've got a nice little haul, send them off with an explanatory email to the council's Environmental Health team.
It's always best to try and keep things on a friendly level in the meantime though. But I do appreciate how difficult that can be. My neighbour (thankfully gone at the beginning of this year) was really quite remarkably unpleasant and added to his manifold charms by playing his bass guitar VERY loudly at all hours. It was miserable. Even Jasper-dog couldn't nod off (and he can generally sleep anywhere, anytime) with the bass lines of "Smoke on the Water" or the many and varied hits of Miss Dolly Parton being bashed out through the walls...
Wishing you the best of luck. xx0 -
Thanks for all the replies, I didn't post the letter as don't want to wind them up or sound like i'm 'lording' it over them. Decided i'll keep a log of noise/problems and if it gets worse just complain to the council. Still don't understand their mentality. :beer:0

A friend of mine has the same problem the flat is not next to his but the noise is traveling via the roof space over to his flat. Same as you till 3.00am every night they to, have nosmall children, he has spoken to them twice, spoken to Landlord twice, still music played. He then went to the letting Agent who wrote to them and now the music is toned down.
If the tenent is in a Housing Association flat they will have a ASB Officer, you should complain to them.0 -
Sorry it should say they HAVE small children I would have told my friend the next move would be to inform Social Services.0

Agreed about not sending the letter - glad it didn't go.
I think if you put anything in writing to them (or the council), it would have to be declared if/when you sell.
Fingers crossed it sorts itself out. Enough complaints and they might get moved. If it's just the occasional night though, not every night, it might have to be a case of 'good earplugs'. They do help, honest.
Do you have carpet in your bedroom? Does your bed actually touch the walls? Might help to pull it away slightly.

When I lived with my parents there was a prostitute living above us who played music all night, every night. We were advised to keep a sound log of every time the music started, when it ended (usually the 'lovely' woman would leave the music on, go out all night, then turn it off at 9am when she got home), and copies of any letters we posted. It was a long and slow process but eventually, after about two years, she was evicted.
The important thing is to keep a log, and make sure everyone else in the block does too.
Why they don't put noisy neighbours in one massive tower block where they can all play their awful music day and night is beyond me.
Forgot to say, letters and notes should always be factual and emotionless. I.e. 'your music started at 2:43am and and ended at 5:21am. As these are unsocial hours please ensure you don't play music past 11pm etc etc'Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

I'm so glad you didn't send your letter. Although it made me chuckle, if that was put through my door I don't think I would be very pleased.
It reads like you are going to get the cavalry in and start a war, or are employing the council to have them exterminated like vermin, lol.
I always think give somebody one chance to be reasonable by writing a really polite, thoughtful little note introducing yourself as a new neighbour, but saying they must be unaware of the sound travelling and would it be possible to keep it down between 11pm and 8am but that is only because you need to sleep and not because you don't want them to enjoy their hobby. End it with 'many thanks' and be all nicey.
After that, send your snotty letters and ring whomever you like to complain, they had their chance, lol.0 -
Hehe I do apologise if I come across as a snob, it's not how I intend to sound but I guess I just grew up in a different place to some of my new neighbours. I have nothing against them apart from the noise and truly don't believe myself to be any better than any of them. If I did I wouldn't have bought a flat in a HA block. I really would like to get along with the neighbours as they are polite and the little girl is very sweet. Guess i'll have to learn to be a bit more tolerant of people in future.
