Hi
I just saw this thread (bit late for Christmas, I appreciate!) but seem to remember that the icing around the tunis cake was pink and yellow. Does that ring bells with anyone else?
Otherwise ignore me and resurect this thread at Christmas - when I will be bound to miss it again lol!0 -
With Christmas in mind( yes it's only 10 weeks away) my mum and I came round to the old question of "what happened to Tunis Cakes" then I found this site, and our question was answered.I have very fond memories of this cake, the three marzipan fruits, made in the shape of an apple,a pear and an orange, the pink and yellow piped icing(yes expat-jo) the thick wonderful chocolate, and the base,I seem to remember a maderia type cake (is that the same as sponge?)without lemon peel.perhaps if I bombard Mcvities, they might bring it back.some hope!0

Good luck with that Courcy - I've never received a reply from them myself when I've enquired. Add my name to the list if you're looking to start a petition won't you! I buy it every year, and am disappointed every year. Nothing but the McVities flavour will do!
Wonder when it'll hit the shelves ......0 -

Good idea but I fear not! Please see my quotes from McVities response - somehere earlier in this thread when they basically said nobody was interested in their Tunis Cake and they had no intention of bringing it back. I think I also suggested they could alternatively approach Tesco to offer to make the original McVities recipe for Tesco but that produced a nil response, too. The Tesco variant is simply awful. If enough people buy the Tesco abomination to make "Tunis Cake" viable for Tesco, and whoever makes it for them, then just think how many more units they would sell if they offered the original McVities version?0 -
I have just emailed this to MCVities, with a link to this thread - i doubt they will send us the recipe but you never know!!!
Hello McVities!
There are a number of people who are sadly missing McVities Tunis Cake and have been complaining miserably about it for two years now! - they have already emailed you about re-introducing the cake, but have been told there is not enough demand.

I appreciate this, and wonder if you could supply us with your recipe please so that we can try and re-create it at home for our families?
Many thanks0 -
How can McVities say there isn't enough demand for the cake when the Tesco's version flies off the shelves the day it appears! I've had to reserve them for the past couple of years, otherwise I didn't get it at all! I don't think that argument holds much weight I'm afraid.
I've been pining for the real deal since McVities stopped making it, not just for two years!! And my mum, God rest her soul.
Can anyone remember what year McVities stopped making them?0 -
We're getting a real Tunis Cake appreciation thread going here, aren't we
I might try emailing mcvities, even though there doesn't seem to be much chance of getting a positive response from them
Meanwhile I'll keep a look out in case any other stores do their own..
I can't remember what year McVities stopped doing them, unfortunately. I just remember having them when I was a kid, during the 70s/80s..0 -

Now there's an idea (of yours)! Luck has it that this thread gets quite a high ranking when anyone searches for Tunis Cake using Google. Therefore:
Anyone reading this thread, please, please please...write, email, phone or otherwise contact McVities.
Other stores do produce so-called Tunis Cake including Sainsburys but none are half as good as the original McVities version.0 -
Can someone give the McVitees web address they sent their email to, please?
I didn't get round to making one using the recipe on here last year, but I am making one this year. I planning to get the cake made up in the next week or so and frozen, ready for defrosting and decoration later.0 -
