Tiscali (talktalk) pathetic slow speed

I was out of contract with Tiscali 6 weeks back and phoned them up to end the contract.
However they offered me the next 4 months free if I signed up for another 12 months which I did .
Virtually from that day my download speed has gone pathetically low should be up to 8meg but getting 0.3meg was getting about 3.2meg before.
How should I go about complaing, and since I consider them not keeping up their end of the contract by not supplying anywhere near the service promised if they did not improve would I be entitled to get out of the contract ?

I take it that you have ruled out a line fault?
Drops in linespeed can depend on a lot of things - including what type of line you're on - is it LLU?
Have you tested your router with a new filter straight in the test socket?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

A friend who is in IT came around and checked for line faults and told me nothing is wrong just that the ISP (talktalk) must be throttling my speed.
It is also hell of a coincidence after 6 years with Pipex, tiscali, talktalk my speed gets drastically cut the day after I agree another 1 year contract with them.
I can not wait to see the details regarding throttling, average speeds(not BS upto speeds),etc the ISP`S are going to have to make public, something that is long overdue.0 -

They would have nothing to gain by cutting your speeds.
Your friend in IT wouldn't have been able to check for faults elsewhere down the line other than what is accessible in your home. I work in IT but I wouldn't be able to tell you if your line had a fault or not, only BT/TalkTalk can.
Probably best you report this to them and have them check for faults properly. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
"They would have nothing to gain by cutting your speeds".
Are you sure ?
It is well known and admitted by ISP`s that they throttle peoples speeds.
If they have nothing to gain why are they doing it ?0 -
OP Care to post your router stats? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Before christmas my thomson router would not connect to the internet. Nothing wrong with phone. Internet light on router would not come on. This went on for a couple of weeks. I'm with talk talk so rang tech help. They suggested a line fault but tested and nothing found. I found out that if I pulled out the phone line from the back of the router a few times the connection and fifth light would come on and stay on. I posted the problem on here and a talk talk rep replied. Within a few days the modem worked perfectly and my speed had gone back up to 13mb. No engineer ever came to the house. I believe that line speed can be altered by "stabilisation" or something like that. The broadband provider can seem to alter the quality of a line by flicking a switch and that seems to have happened to me. I thought that the router would have to be replaced (being 4 years old) but that clearly was not the case.0

Are you sure you haven't been downloading a lot of P2P stuff? That's the only protocol they throttle (and good on 'em!), everything else runs at line speed 24/7.0 -
*sigh* love friends in IT... ok what type of line do you have? LLU? Ips? Ds?
You "mate" CAN'T run line diagnostics from your house unless he's a BT engineer, or possibly extremely gifted and should be working for NASA... Router stats would be good, but yes in answer to you "co-incidence?" comment? It probably is. Faults happen ALL THE TIME... It could be BT havebput another line in somewhere in the green cabinet and a not very careful engineer bumped your tied pair... Seriously it can be THAT simple... Call tech support and see what their tests suggest...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
