I drove the car this morning for the first time in a few days, early in the morning while it was very quiet. The sound is NOT knocking. It sounds exactly like a loose belt IYKWIM. It starts at about 5 mph and stops again at around 20mph.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Explore further, is it related to engine speed? Road speed? Gear? Combination? Change or stay the same with foot on & off the clutch?
Now we’ve moved away from knocking and to a “belt noise” it could be release bearing but that would change noise with foot on & off the pedal0 -
No difference with foot on or off clutch pedal I think. Can't think TBH if it happens with foot on the clutch, but it is definitely there when off the pedal. And definitely only at low speed. Disappears once you get to around 20-30 mph. Also sounds as if it is coming from the left side of the engine.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Just some quotes from Garages to both source and fit a new clutch.
Honda quoted 585 pounds:eek: ( still can't find pound symbol since pc was reconfigured).
Independent garages quoted 315 with 3 yr warranty or 24k.
Another quoted 322 with 2 yr warranty and unlimited mileage.
As we would maybe do around 24k over 2 years, is it better to go for the 2nd one? The guy said that anyone who offers a warranty of limited mileage with a new clutch must be using an inferior quality clutch. Is he correct? Should it make any difference?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

I had the chance to drive the car again very early this morning. I am wondering whether Mr Clutch has a vested interest in telling us we need a new clutch (or would that just be the cynic in me?).
The noise like a loose cable in the car seems to have no relation to the clutch pedal at all. It only happens at low speed when the accelerator is depressed, and immediately stops when the pedal is released. Doesn't seem to happen in reverse either for some reason, but maybe the speed has been so low in reverse. I don't know, but I have told my dh that he must take it for another opinion, before we take it to get a new clutch. We have had quotes for the new clutch between 315-585.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

can you still hear the whine if you knock the engine into neutral as you are travelling along?

Sorry, didn't see this before. It sounds as if it on the left side as I am driving. Not from a mechanic's viewpoint.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

TBH, your wasting your time asking for opinions on noise over the web... it's almost impossible to diagnose without hearing it.
My suggestion is to go to a few garages and see their opinions, but don't tell them what you think, or what anyone else says.0 -
You are right. It is impossible. No more realistic than trying to describe a rash to a nurse over the web ( as I have had happen to me a few times lol).Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

OP, I used to have a Jazz (55 plate) and the gear box went but it was replaced for free as honda had extended the warranty on the gear box as there are faults with it in cars of that age. Yours may also be covered as yours is only a year younger. It might be worth taking it to a local honda dealer and getting them to look at it to see if you can get it fixed for free.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
