Transferring 2001 License Plate to 1997 Car + Bonus Question
Hi,
I purchased my 2001 Volvo a couple of years ago which by my luck happened to include my surname. (reason I bought the car over the others) which is AD01AMS. It's been off the road for 6 months and am looking to purchase a 1997 S500 S-Class and sell the Volvo. My question is, is it possible to transfer a newer license plate to an older car?
Bonus question: Let's say the above is not possible. Or even if it is... If I did buy the S-Class, is it possible to get rid of the number plate and replace it with a entirely different combination via DVLA for what ever reason? If so, would they supply you with another 1997 P-Reg?
Thanks!

You can't make an older car look newer so you won't be able to transfer a 2001 plate to a 1997 car.
You can buy any plate from the DVLA but the same rules apply. You can't make the car look newer than it is. So it'll be P-reg or older.
Also 01 plates were never issued.0 -

It would be impossible to make the car look "younger" seen as the ceased production of this model in 1998 and bought in the newer S-Class for 1999. So would this rule still apply?
Regarding the other question. Can I pick and choose out of plates?
You are right about the typo.0 -
It just can not be done at all, you will have to try and find another plate, you can pick any plate from the year your car is or older.0

The date they stopped making you model of car has absolutly nothing to do with it the only thing thats matter is the year of the car and the year of the plate. The only exception are 'ageless' plates which dont indicate the year.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

'AD01AMS' can't exist - as previously said, '01' plates don't exist so why are we all wasting time pandering to AD01AMS ego?;)0

I find a windup post works much better when the person starting the windup actually knows something about the subject.
01 plate!
Sometimes peoples stupidity surprises me.

The Darwin Award is only open to people who, prior to producing any offspring, accidentally remove themselves from the gene pool through their own stupidity. I don't see how the OP is a candidate.0 -
Wrong, the Darwin Award is those that are so stupid that they cast doubt into Darwins Theory of Evolution.
At least that is how we hand out awards in he smoke, London.
For example the bloke that got his "little friend" stuck in a wide neck Lucozade Bottle, then didn't want to go to A/E for 6 hours by which point his "little friend" was completely black and it had to be removed. Is definately a candidate for the Darwin Award as far as I can see it.
Though happily he also qualifies under your rules, so it is all good.
I assume that by your comment the reasons for nomination may well differ slightly throughout the country.
But where I live and work, they are indeed considered as I have said, your area is obviously different.
As such, the OP is definately to be considered a candidate.0
