Lost 3.5lbs... think stress is kicking in. :(
  • What have you tried myconosray? How about trying to eat more liquid foods, like soups, stews, currys, I read somewhere that the more liquid your food is, the more it fills you up, so naturally eat less. I have some pretty decent recipes for all those things if you fancy it.

Or how about increasing your intake of fruit and veg? I know weeks that I eat lots of that (been snacking on peas in the pod recently), I do tend to see the weight drop off.

Increasing your fibre can also help, but this is more if you are maybe a bit bloated or backed up...

myconosray you could be building up muscle with the gym, so therefore weightloss not showing but your body shape is still changing.

Well done to everyone who has lost - my weigh in is tomorrow morning, but TBH I've given up on the weight lost - going to stay at the exercise and keep up the relatively healthy eating but I'm not stressing about it as long as I don't put any on!

Had my first fitting last night and love the way my dress looks, so no major panic now

Right, so had my dress fitting on Friday, and although the dress has to come in, its not by enough. So, I have just under 5 weeks left and 10lbs to lose - totally achievable, right?
  • I have read some fantastic stories here, beyond super human at times.

Everyone should hold on to that as inspiration that most things in life are achievable if you really want it to work.

although it can turn into just pounds/kgs mania. Every single improvement to your health/diet or shape should be taken as a victory. you may only lose 3 pounds but if that is done because you now eat a more balanced diet then that is a huge success. you must take yourself and your goals as individual but inspiration support and occasionally those phone calls you make in front of chocolate cake at the end of your will from a group!

on that note... tips for a healthier you - hope i havent repeated and this is the right forum for it

    1) our local NHS now offer discounts to join the local gym if you are even slightly overweight by BMI

    2) i have heard of personal trainer discounts being given too, i think around 10%

    3) if you are over 45 you can have a free cholesterol test from most pharmacies, these often tell you glucose level too, so you can see if you are eating too much sugar. The key figures is your bad cholesterol level to your good cholesterol level. LDL is bad, HDL is good. I find these are a good indicator for general diet or the effects of your new diet. Also that if your BMI is higher than expected i.e you look fine but it says overweight then your cholesterol along with your glucose level will tell you if you are naturally muscly or fat from the inside.

    4) general standards of cooking, studies have shown that those with a low level of cooking skill or low confidence level in general are more prone to being overweight. If you have kids there are some local initiatives to teach you how to cook. (post code lottery). if you dont have kids then there are adult education lessons from the local centers that are good value. each council has its own rates.

    - Also saves you loads of money as you dont throw away food and you can be more inventive with more frugal ingredients.

    5) vegetables are cheaper than meat so go for the cheaper ratio of food!

    6) if you need to drop inches rather than weight for a temporary amount of time, then wraps or taking water retention tablets are good.

    7) remember that appetite suppressant tablets are legal forms of slow release speed, so stick to the dosage levels and try not to take them.

    8) for me milk is a disaster, it makes lactic acid anyway in the body which leads to anaerobic respiration (people excersising call it "the wall") you can get calcium from plenty of other places, or at least switch to non cow products. never have diary products before going to the gym etc you will negatively affect your performance.

also giving up diary means you lose so much weight anyway as you cant have most puddings, etc.

i am intolerant to diary so i know lots of recipes and it becomes easier the longer you do it.

    9) DO NOT BELIEVE the low fat, no added sugar labels. look at the nutritional content and decide for yourself.

fat free food in general tastes bad, because fat makes things taste good, to get over this companies pile in the sugar to make up for it. I cannot tell you how many "fruit bars" etc are not healthy

although fruit is healthy it is also quite sugary, yes good sugar as it wer but still sugar all the same

american website but good to see is sugarstacks, go to fruit section and it shows you in cubes how much sugar are in things.

    10) when you eat, eat properly. When you eat, do not have the TV on, try not to have fast music, try to be only eating, not reading or walking etc, eat in non harsh lighting, eat in a nice environment. all these things affect how much you eat. google them for advice.

    on that note

TARGET - 2 inches off stomach
1.5 inches off each thigh (yes got a pack horse figure lol)
    2 inches off the chest
1 inch of each top arm
    0.5 inch off each calf

    by sep 2013

P.s I have lost 2 stone in 3 years, slow but i havent ever put back the weight on. never give up people!! (last 0.5 stone took me 10 months!)

  • stir crazy - reading your post above, that weight loss is achievable but you may need to do some cutting back depending on your now weight.

for my best friends wedding, she followed my advice and lost 5 pounds in one week from cutting out diary (bit of a cheese fiend mind)
however she has now gone to loose 1.5 stone from cutting it out completely.

it depends what is your specific issue?

mine is that i cant bear bland food after years of terrible cooking by my grandparents so i only eat tasty food (read that as caked in sugar etc) and i cant hold myself back from eating it all if it is there! So i deliberately cook too little to make sure i wont go back for seconds or serve myself a big portion as my other half would get suspicious LOL! I also cut down the opportunities for eating, so i set myself a deadline of not eating after 7.30pm (which is a great tip in general btw)

I am aiming to cut out alcohol and cut down on meat an carbs for next few weeks. Lots of soup, stir frys, vegi meals. But I am afraid to weigh myself until this Friday- I just had a bad few weeks, so want to do damage control. If I could get to 9st it wouldn't effect my dress fit ThAT much right?!

I've not been behaving myself recently at all. Weighed myself this morning and thankfully I've only put 1lb on in over a month. Time to be good though!

Citizen - I've come to the conclusion that I'm just too greedy. I'm an emotional eater and will break open a bag of crisps or chocolate bar at the first sign of boredom/ sadness/ happiness.. (you get the picture). I've lost around a stone since the start of the year by trying various diets - cutting out carbs, cambridge weight plan, tesco version of slim fast, intermittent fasting. The one thing I always need to do is cut carbs though.

I do really well soing one thing for a while then fall off the band wagon, try something else, do really well, then fall off the band wagon again.
