Thank you very much for all that - though I have to admit some of it goes over my head a little. We was informed by clerks that the DA could be claimed up to 45 days before the move which was how we got it in the Jan pay and moved in Feb. We have been told we are entitled to the move from the 2 bed to the 3 bed as I am pregnant (obviously only as long as there are any available).

I have no idea who/what SPS/SPVA are lol?!

DE have allocated a quarter, but we have since been told it has been withdrawn as it is unavailable, so are still waiting the outcome on that. We was told we'd be entitled to the move at public expense also, but again - I think this comes under the 6 month ruling - which is could be by the time they sort the house out?!

The JSP says 30 days but it used to be 42, so I take 30 to mean working days - in old money it was 7 weeks, so you probably sneaked in on that. The JSP has been updated (at least once) since you claimed before.

SPS are actually AGC (SPS) which is the corps that deal with admin and pay - the military personnel in the pay office will be AGC(SPS). SPVA is linked with JPAC (as in JPA) who decide on matters that aren't clearly in line with the "normal" regulations.

I think (just think) that you will be ok if DE confirm it being for "service reasons" if they don't then you won't get it.

Thanks very much for your help. Just have to wait and see I guess. Need to get them to sort the mess out with the actual house application first!

Availability has nothing to do with it, if there are no quarters available the HIC must offer a NAC (non availability certificate) and you choose to wait or accept an hiring/rental (SSFA). They can't just say no 3 beds - stay where you are.

Also they must make you an offer within 15 working days of your application or offer NAC.

Thanks for all your help people. We was offered a house on Thursday after refusing the first one and was given a march in date today of 1st September.

Please can someone confirm that we are elgible for DA - (last lot was paid in Jan's wages and we marched into the property on 28th Feb)?
If we are, when can hubby put in for this? Is he able to do it after the move as he is actually on summer leave up until the move date?

    Many thanks
  • This paragraph in JSP 752 implies that you are:

07.0111. Mid-assignment Moves. DA is only payable for mid-assignment moves where the move of accommodation is for Service, compassionate, welfare or medical reasons. Where the Service person’s accommodation entitlement changes due to promotion or a change in the size of the immediate family (other than as a result of first setting up of home) the Service person will normally be entitled to a mid-assignment move and therefore the associated level of DA. The Service person must have an expectation of occupying the new property for at least 6 months. Mid-assignment moves for other personal reasons, including on estrangement, and for operational deployments do not give an entitlement to DA.

And I've certainly had soldiers apply for and receive DA in circumstances similar to yours. If the soldier needs further clarification he should speak to his AGC staff, bare in mind young clerks in a Coy/Sqn may not yet be up to speed, so it might be worth while asking a clerk further up the chain at sgt/ssgt level.

On another note you're entitled to removals as well.

Many thanks. Will get him to speak to someone. We have emailed the HIC regarding march in, march out as we know we are entitled, but to be honest it would be easier to march in to the new house a day or two before we march out of the current house and do it ourselves, but the guy that marched us into this house said we couldn't do that?

Would just save me packing everything up and could just do it room by room etc.
  • If you do not wish to use service removals you don't have to, you can move your possessions yourself if you like but you can't then claim for the cost of hiring a van, or packing materials should you need them.

That's fine, we're not worried about that aspect of it - we just think they will tell us we have to march out and in on the same day?
  • No, its unusual to move in and out on the same day. You can book your pre move out and move out now. Call your HIC on 0800 169 6322 and ask for the day you would like to march out on, this should be within 2 weeks of your move in to avoid duel occupancy charges, call the HIC early as appointments fill up fast this time of year.
