They came to take out the meter today. My daughter had to deal with it, as I was away for the day.
Incredible - The guy was going to take out the check meter, & leave me with the old one which they have acknowledged is running fast!!! There was no way they were going to do that - my daughter soon put them right, and made sure they also knew that she had taken the meter readings. They didn't give her anything to say what the reading were!!!!!!!!

I am getting heartily sick of them. The check meter can't export electricity - got a contract from them the other day to sign up for FiTs payments - I already get b.... FiT payments - just hope they don't hold this last quarters back, as it £600+. I also got a phone call last thing on Friday evening - we were out - ansa phone message "I understand your meter is running fast - if you ring the meter team they will sort it out for you ring blah blah blah meter team. Talk about 1 hand not knowing what the other is doing.
Time now to get my letter writing skills into gear - no-one has yet rung me back as to how they are going to repay me.

Anyway, final tally for meter readings for 56 days

    old meter ........ 838
    check meter actual used 326.60

    Difference 511.40 over 56 days

My actual use per day is 5.83 The old meter was averaging 14.96

In that time we also generated 854 KWh averaging 15.25 KWh per day.

Think about it - what happens to the electricity that your panels generate and you do not use in your property?

Got a phone call late yesterday to ask if the meter had been taken out ok - let them know about fiasco re going to take away the wrong meter. Reactions was WHATTTT - told them my daughter had made sure the correct meter had been removed. I also gave him the figures I had from the meters when it was removed.
They have decided that my meter is faulty!! My reaction was you owe me quite a lot of money then - "it appears we do, I'll see how far we can go back with this, and get back to you!!!!!!" I'll take that, been with them as our suppliers since 2005/06, even though the meter was in 10 years ago - it was a different supplier, though I seem to remember reading somewhere that they only legally have to go back 3/4 years.
It appears they are NOT factoring in the panels - just got to be a bit patient now, and see what happens.
I will mention the solar panels again when they ring, but that will be it - it can't possibly be the panels affecting the meter;) can it;):wink: :silenced:.
Who am I to question those that know better than me!! :silenced: I will bow to their superior wisdom

Statute of limitations for most commercial matters is 6 years (in England & Wales).

But they might fit a nice new Siemens fraud proof meter;):D

They are going to have send an arm guard if they try & remove the meter that they put in as a check meter - seriously though, they have told us they are leaving the meter in that was used as a check meter.

Six years would be good :) Moral dilemma ??????????? nah s.. it.

Just been looking back on my account for Jan-July 2010 supposedly averaged 22.43 units a day Aug 2009-Jan 2011 averaged 15.61 per day - this was after getting panels in, so it looked as though we were saving 7 units a day - hence why we didn't think too much about the meter being wrong - especially as I was being convinced by the oh-so helpful customer services. We also renewed dishwasher, freezer, & washer in his time - so I wonder how
(Until now, I have been wondering how I could have let this go on for so long - I had just thought that if that was all we were going to save with the panels, they were definitely a non starter without the FiTs - & I even said so on one of the threads on MSE also made me wonder why the hell I had bought new A+ appliances)

Same period for Jan- July 2009 supposedly averaged 21.52

We don't have immersion heater - but I do use tumble dryer in winter - but we are only a household of 3 sensible adults.

This year for the time the check meter was in, we are averaging 5.83 per day.

At the moment, sounds stupid I know, but I feel like crying, as I am so relieved that hopefully they will sort this without my having to fight anymore & this stress will soon be gone.
I have found putting stuff on here, as I am thinking it, has helped a great deal, as I then don't forget things.

Right we are now negotiating. They have decided my meter was running fast, as well as the panels clocking on - going back to 2006 - bit disappointed all they will give for compensation is £100 + electricity overpaid.
Pleased to say quite a substantial amount will be returned into my bank account.

Final posting to say I will be getting roughly £10 a week returned for from Oct.2006. Just waiting for money to be refunded - its showing up on my Electric Account.

Just a final thought - as they say my meter is running fast I would never have known for sure if we hadn't got solar panels fitted. I have been lucky in the fact that this was eventually checked during a very good generation period, so figures have worked well to my advantage - I spoke to someone at Atlantic today, and she says she has never seen such big difference in the several years she has worked there.

Since the 1st July we have used all of £8.68 worth of electricity averaging 5.64 KW a day, and we have generated
233 KWh averaging 16.64 KWh per day.
  • sad to see it took solar panels to find the problems - but lets hope these issues are behind us and enjoy the refund - for me , with eastbourne borough council it seems its going downhill rapidly , and they want to increase the rents to pay for the maintanance - wiping out any savings whilst they pocket the FiT

Personally I have my doubts as to whether the meter was running so fast - but as I said previously, "I'll take that" only time & my future electric use in winter will tell!!

What a Shame Eastbourne council are trying to do that - It would have been a good money maker for them - I suppose like everyone else they are skeptical of payback - it would have certainly a pioneering step for for a council to take.
