Unit Prices?

I've just moved to a new flat, which has an economy 7 meter and is supplied by Scottish Power.
Is there somewhere I can go where I can find what unit prices are? I suspect storage heaters and Economy 7 is not a good option for me, but I need to do a bit of research into it first.

Which of course I did before I posted here you smug !!!!!.
Edit : To be clear.
Of course I've already searched google, how stupid have you made the assumption that I am? I've also checked Scottish Power's website. I've even read through the mailing they sent to the new occupier. None of those are able to tell me what the unit prices are.0 -

It will vary depending on what plan you are on, and there are many plans. Best thing to do is
- go onto your online account
- request a ring back, that way its free
- and ask all of the correct questions :
- - am I on the most cost effective tariff for my usage
- - what is my account number
- - what is my meter number
- - what is my area code number
- - what is the precise name of the ' plan ' I'm on
- - what is my [ CAC ] Calculated Annual Consumption
- - what discounts do I get / internet access / Direct Debit etc
- - what are the precise start and end dates for your contract
You will have a night rate of around 5p, a day rate of around 10p and a daily standing charge of around 16p, less discounts, plus VAT.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks Richie, that helps a fair bit! I'm not sure why they hide the charges, perhaps it's to try to stop comparisons. I've gone through the comparison sites and I don't understand how they compare things, unless they're really just comparing unit prices, and then subtracting discounts and adding charges.
The night rate vs day rate just doesn't sound good for me at all. As far as I can understand the night rate only operates for 7 hours out of 24, and since my electricity usage will more likely be for heating up water for a bath, and running the TV, computers, and other electrical things rather than the storage heaters (I'm lucky if I turn on the heating for more than a month or two per year) then the tariff I'm on doesn't sound good. From what I've read they seem to add on to the "on peak" fee what they take from the "off peak" meaning if my electricity usage is steady throughout the day I'm paying extra 70% of the time, and less 30% of the time. To me that sounds like a good reason to switch tariff, if that's possible, away from the economy 7. And when I can afford it I'll get rid of the storage heaters for other heaters, or get gas in.0 -
They don't hide the prices, if you go to a particular tariff on the SP site, then the prices are available via the button on the r/ side of the page where it says 'View Prices', eg:
http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/products/discounted-energy.aspx
If you want to compare prices across suppliers then use a comp site.
The whole point of E7 is that you don't use your electricity evenly through the day, you heat your night storage heaters using cheap rate E7 during the night, and similarly you heat your hot water ready for the morning.
Typically you need to be using at least 33% of your total kWh consumption on cheap rate to make it work. Running night storage heaters on standard rate would be crazy.
'Getting gas in' to an all electric flat may be either extremely expensive, or simply not possible. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

If you have a look at some of the posts on this site you will see there are some incredibly stupid people around !!!
Not only do they ask stupid things, they ask things that have been answered [STRIKE]dozens[/STRIKE] hundreds of times already.
And as for your question - just look where frugalmacdugal found the answer ! would never have thought of that:D:D

You've just moved in so making any comparison is going to be difficult and at best a ' guesstimate ', one thing for sure no comparisons can be made unless you have your usage in kWhpa. The best you can do is get SP to give you their [ CAC ] Calculated Annual Consumption of your predicted usage. Even Stephen Hawkins could not make an accurate calculation without kWh !
You have a 200 litre average [one bath per day ] per day need for water which you will get 60% cheaper using night rate leccy', that's £350 for a bog standard immersion heater / £120 for gas / £150 for E7. You need no heating for 90% of the year and never use a washer / drier / fridge [ constant consumption ] freezer.
You do not live in the UK ?, or work away 46 weeks of the year, and use no heating - yes you are on the wrong heating type & tariffSingle and out from early doors till late you will have a 60-40% split in day / night rates, retired and home all day it will be closer to 50-50% split.
It is, as I said difficult as a new E7 user, in a new property with no kWh average, but you need to give the group a lot more info about how you use energy.
I'll give you a guestimate, having an abundance of piping hot water, room temps at a constant 19 degree plus, almost unlimited use of 60" TV's and other modern junk [ excluding skunk farming ] will cost £100pm average on E7.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
