Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 24th April. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
We had no thunder & no rain yesterday so the garden will be watered in a sec, yesterday we cleaned out the fish tank, emptied all the water out etc, this takes a while as it holds 2 dusbins full of water, catching the fish often takes the longest, one of our fish is so big I had to grab his tail & carry him, I couldn't net him.
It's overcast here so far today, maybe it will brighten up later. Roast lamb for tea tonight, we both love lamb & I managed to buy 4 half shoulders for £2.99 each last week, I shall rub crushed garlic on it & poke some sprigs of rosemary into it, I have lot's of rosemary in the garden.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester BB and all who follow.

Not feeling great today. Got bitten/ stung by something on the allotment the other day, and now half of my calf is red, hot swollen and painful. I drew a line around the redness last night and it has definitely spread. Painful even to walk. I'm hoping it doesn't get worse as the kids are going to play with friends this afternoon and I was going to lottie to put in a few hours.

DH off to car boot. To sell again. DD1 couldn't wake up enough to go with him. She, of course is now wide awake and realising that her dad took all her stuff to sell too. U think she will get any money out of him? Hope so, but if not, that'll teach her to stay up late when she knows she has to get up early in the morning. Hoping he gets me some decent gardening gloves and a fork.

Have to get on and make some potato bread for a fry up when dh gets home later. Maybe make some twink's too as the kids looking for treats and I haven't bought any.

HAPPY EASTER - my old style friends xx

Hope you all have a lovely day. The weather here looks lovely again. Yesterday was so hot though. We had a busy day as I had to take my Macb00k back to MK as the back had cracked. There was some umming and aaring as to whether it was covered by their warranty but they did cover it and repaired it within the hour. Very good service and made my day as Im a bit lost without my puter :T:T:T

Roast dinner today and im going to try and make a Dime Cake Cheesecake. We had one on our holiday and it was yummy. Hugs x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

BB that's so disappointing about your dh interview. Mine had something similar recently where the actual interview and job spec was very different from what he expected. It is very frustrating. Hope he gets something soon.

Happy Easter folks for those that mark it:)
Off to church in a while.
Grey and overcast here today, but warm (about 12C) and we are predicted thunder storms. Not a big fan of storms but a good dose of rain persisting will be good for all the little plantlets if it happens:)
Dinner will be Roast Lamb. I will make a rosemary, garlic & dijon mustard mixture to spread over it before cooking. It is one of DD2's favourite dinners.
Happy Sunday m'dears, hugs to those who need or want, cheers, Silver x

    Hi everyone

We had a lovely day here yesterday; just right for the Easter Fayre we went to in the afternoon. A bit cooler today with cloud but it could brighten up later. We have a hose pipe ban starting tomorrow (don't panic, this is France!), so we will get the cars washed beforehand. They haven't been washed for ages.

DH is concreting a step this morning, then there's the French version of a car boot sale this afternoon in one of the prettiest villages around, so I'm looking forward to that.

Dinner will be tarragon chicken cooked in the Remoska so that we can eat it cold with salad and new potatoes when we get in this evening.

Most of my morning will be taken up with cleaning the fridge and filing paperwork - lovely, not!

Rosie - if that bite doesn't subside, it might be worth a trip to the doctor's in case it's infected. Hope it goes down soon.

Bargainbird - such a shame about the job.

Hope you all have a great Easter Sunday.

Good Morning everyone :easter_os:easter_osto you all.I do hope you all have a great day today
I am up early as the sun was blazing through my bedroom curtains and I don't want to waste a minute when the weather is like this.I have a little ironing to do, then decorate the cheese cake with strawberries to take to DD's later .
I have cling-filmed a fiver each to my DGS easter eggs.(They were not very large ones) and the boys would like to have a few pennies to treat themselves to someting.Ben will spend his Easter fiver on fishing bait I expect, and the little ones will buy themselves a book or toy. They don't have pocket money as such, and if I know they are really wanting something I try to help with a little bit of cash. Most of their stuff is from Christmas or Birthday present,s and their 'present money' they have to save for something special.Their other Grandma and Granddad live in Cornwall, so they tend to get a cheque each for Christmas and birthdays .
DD would find it a bit of a struggle to give them regular pocket money to the four boys (Katie works part-time ) But the children don't go without .They do know the value of cash, and how to save for what they want though.

We will probably go to the country park with the dogs later this afternoon.
H/Hester well done on getting the half shoulders of lamb. I think shoulder has a taste of its own Last time I looked in the butchers they wanted £14.99 for a shoulder.I used to pay 3/6d (18p) for one when my children were small in the early 1970s as it was then considered hardly worth selling as people wanted a leg instead. But left-over shoulder makes the best Sheperds pie ever I think.Plus I would save all the dripping in an old basin to reuse again during the week.I was a frugal bunny in those days as well.:D
Well time to get a wriggle on and have some breakfast I have two crushed up weetabix and a small handful of mueseli all mixed up together and that keeps me going until lunchtime.Lunch will be some home made apple and parsnip soup and a yoghurt and maybe an orange (I want to grate the skin up to go into a cake today)
Tonights dinner I know is roast beef with all the trimmingsMy son-in-law is cooking today and he is a great cook so that will be well worth looking forward to.
I hope everyone gets out into the sunshine and can enjoy one of the few times we have had a bank holiday where the weather has actually been kind to us all, normally its bucketing down;).
    Take care all
    JackieO xx
P.S.Moiliere I went to a 'broicante' once when I was down visiting my brother and couldn't believe what stuff they were selling.I had chucked out better tat.It was raining as well but it didn't deter the folk who were selling as they had paid for their pitch so they were staying there no matter what It was in Chef-Butonne. Good luck and hope you find a bargain
