Frozen Peppers! Frozen Peas! Reminds me of a time when we were camping in Portugal and I got a stinker of a migraine. My helpful hubby bought frozen peas to ease the pain - but the smell as they gradually thawed out and then warmed slightly on my fevered brow was SOOOO disgusting I spent the whole time trying not to throw up too!!!! I can smell it still - 5 years later.....
uuurrrghghhh!
Get yourself a couple of those gel packs from Lild next time they come around - much better!!! The one from the chemist I bought for a fiver came with an elastic stap on the cover so I can strap it around my forehead and walk around for a bit... don't go outside though as you'll look a bit like a mad John McEnroe lookalike with huge headband!!!Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

I suffered from migraine heaps a few years ago, at the time I steered clear of chocolate which seemed to work - but then they started coming back, and now I find that my triggers are if I eat too much cheese, don't drink enough water or fluid and if I vary my going to bed and getting up times too much.
I often find a very hard pinch on the web between my thumb and first fingers sometimes dulls the pain for a moment or two. Or pressing just under my brow helps too.
You all have my symapthies - migraines are the pits. Fit Likeee!:j0 -
My doctor started me on Zomig (zolmitriptan) a couple of years ago. These work by shutting down the vessels (veins?) in your head. I began by taking 1 tablet as soon as I felt a migraine coming on and about 2 hours later I would be clear!
I have reduced the dose myself to a half tablet as I once awoke with 'palpitations' and VERY strange feelings inside and the new dose still seems to work as well with most headaches going by 2 hours.
However, and this is the bit I would like help on - I feel that my headache will try to recur day after day until finally, either the tablet doesn't work, or I give in and don't take it. Once I've had the BIG headache I'll be clear until the next month. It's like my body NEEDS to have a migraine so it can get back to normal.... does anyone else feel that way?
Should mention the migraines are regular monthly (can sometimes stretch it to 6 weeks (or ovulation!) with the tabs!) since I've had my 2 kids, youngest now 5. Never had a single one while pregnant - sheer bliss!!
I use these Zomig tablets to basically control what day the migraine will fall on.... whatever is usually convenient for my hubby to be around for the kids!!Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

Frozen peas don't work for me - I have found a wheat bag (heated up in the microwave) helps the best especially if you have tense neck and shoulders as well. My doctor put me on a very low dose of Amitriptyline a few years ago after trying stacks of other stuff. Still get migraines but not as often as before and they are (generally) more manageable.0

I've been taking Zomig for about 5 yrs now and find it brilliant.Nothing else has ever worked. Most headaches go within half an hour...and if they don't I take a second pill and that usually does the trick.
I know what you mean about the headache trying to recurr the next day tho...strange isn't it?♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
Sorry to buck the trend here, but aren't you all missing the point?
The key to curing your migraines is to [drumroll please] ... ESTABLISH THE CAUSE.
That's right folks. For some people it's chocolate, port or cheese before the afternoon. For others it is reading too early in the morning. Ecetera ecetera.
For me it was excessive straining (e.g., pushing a wardrobe, or jogging), cheese or chocolate, or flickering computer monitors, all before the afternoon.
For example, I couldn't go for a jog in the morning, but I can later in the day.
I had flashing lights, vomiting and major pain on one side of the head.
Once I really had a good think about the cause, I was able to stop it. I am 32. My last migraine was when I was 20.
Just one thing: that's not quite true. In that 12 years I had 1 migraine. The cause?
I "sealed" (painted) my bedroom ceiling with PVA. I slept in the room. Noon the following day: migraine.
So, chemicals of all kinds (plastics are not good!) can trigger a migraine.0 -
I agree with leejp that it is important to find the cause.
I suffered for years with bad headaches and thought they were migraines.
In June this year I collapsed with a brain tumour (benign) and, since the operation, no headaches!Born to shop;)0 -
Yes Thanks fenella & leejp, Yes I understand the cause of most of the ones that I suffered with, chocolate is one that iI have to be very careful with, trouble is I love drinking chocolate but cannot have it.Also I used to find when I finished work on a Friday I would always wake up with one on the Saturday, kind of now the stress was over at work and I had relaxed at home ready for the wkend, it sounds weird but that is what happened most of the time.
But now I haven't worked for 16years I don't get them very often at all but when I do its really bad and I tend to find that it is after a stress situation and relaxed or relived.
I tend to wake up with them when I get them, but I get your point fenella and will watch for this, the older I get the less they have got.
Thank You for your input though it is really helpful not just to me bet for other readers too.
Sounded like Johnny 5 then the robot, input, input ;D0 -
Hi,
I am prescribed tablets called Naramig for my migraines, they work a treat but they do make you sleep for about 5 hours til the migraine is gone so they arent ideal unless you have somewhere dark to hide for a while. I used to take Sanomigran everyday which was meant to prevent them. I havent taken them for 6 months now and i get less migraines than i did when i was taking them!!!
I was told by neurologist that triggers were Chocolate, Oranges, cheese and tomatoes. I was also told however that I would grow out of them. That was 21 years ago
Thoughts are with everyone who suffers from these dreadful things. I normally only know i've got one when i wake up, fall flat on my face where my leg is dead and then throw up on myself.Life is not about how many breaths you take.... Its about how many moments take your breath away
