Hope you feel better soon, migraines are the pits.

I don't bother with herbal or non invasive treatments anymore I'm a wimp and it's straight to the injections for me.

    Hi Pat,

I get the injections on prescription and have used them successfully for about 6 years now. I save them for the really bad ones, and they usually work within 20 minutes although they tend to only stop the 'head' problems, the sickness and other symptoms can hang around a bit longer.

They are 'imigran' and are also available in a pill form but the pills didn't work for me. I read in the medical journals that there is also a nasal spray now that is proving highly successful so it might be worth asking about that as well.

These products are horribly expensive, approx £12 per injection, but I get a pack of two at a time on prescription. There are side effects and they are not suitable for many people but I went through a consultant neurologist when I was suffering from migraines two or three times a week and now my GP just prescribes what I need. I am down to a bad migraine very other month now, so I am obviously growing out of them. I do also take a daily preventative again prescribed via a consultant, but am cutting back on those as well.

Good luck sorting things out. I would definitely suggest asking your GP for a referral to a specialist clinic. Migraine is a real illness, it's not just bad headaches as so many people think, so it does need speciialist input to sort out the best treatment.

Incidentally, watch for changes in the pattern of migraine. Last year I had one for three days which the injections wouldn't clear, I ended up so dehydrated from the sickness that I was taken to the GP who diagnosed meningitus and I spent two weeks in hospital on lots of drugs and a drip.

    Sorry you are suffering

I used to suffer from cluster migraines which brought with it almost instant vomiting, no matter where!

MyGp recommended feverfew, which I took in tablet form daily for about a year, and the clusters stopped, although I still get the occasional migraine.

I have heard people use Botox for this also.
