It's almost as if they grow on trees over there. Could take some explaining at customs, though.
I know that, at £40 for a lemon juicer, it breaks every MSE rule in the book, but I just think the "Juicy Salif" juicer by Phillipe Starck looks drop dead gorgeous. I agree, it does look like a Martian tripod machine from "The War of the Worlds". I can just see it now, on the worktop of a nice new shiny black, white and silver kitchen (sigh). And I'd probably still use a cheap glass juicer or wooden reamer to actually get the juice out of any lemons. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
This may sound like a really obvious question, but when recipes/salads/sauces ask for lemon juice, it it ok to use Jif lemon (or a cheaper equivalent) out of a bottle/plastic lemon as a substitute? (I wasn't sure whether this type of lemon juice is only for pancakes?)
Will it taste comparable / do the same job?
I feel daft posting this, because I'm assuming the answer will be yes. Can anyone confirm for me?

Hi jonny2510, Yes you can use jif lemon0

Hi jonny2510,
Don't feel daft! Remember Martin's mantra, "There's no such thing as a stupid question"
I use lemon juice from a bottle too if I don't have any lemons in. This thread might help with quantities:
The juice of a lemon?

When I cook or make dressings I always use plj, it works out lots cheaper than buying little bottles or squeezy plastic lemons.

Many thanks for all the replies everyone, and thanks for the above link.
Glad to put my mind at rest. I think I'll also look out for lemons on offer, and try the ice cube trick too.
It's mainly because its so infrequent that I need to use a lemon, and the inconvenience of having to go out an get one in the middle of cooking a recipe, I'd rather just keep something in the fridge. The bottle only cost me about 30p from lidl (so the cost of 1 or 2 lemons) and should provide me with much more juice!
Thanks again0 -

Not a daft question.
Yes bottled lemon juice is a perfectly good, convenient substitute.
My mum passed on a recipe for my sister and it said "2 tablespoons of lemon juice or if no lemon juice you can use the juice of a lemon!" :rotfl:Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
