TESCO...Is this discrimination??

Discrimination literally means "the ability to see fine distinctions".
The way we seem to have redefined the word really bothers me, to be honest.
There could be many reasons why the bikes are different prices.
Perhaps more boys bicycles sell, so they're cheaper to produce in bulk.
Perhaps as stated earlier, Tesco had an overstock of 'boys' bicycles.
For one, the distinction is largely your own gender stereotyping - what we're essentially talking about is a bike that's a different colour, no?
And yes, stores charging different prices for the same item is perfectly legitimate. I might sell my laptop to a friend for £100, but to eBay for £150. What, exactly, is wrong with that? Simply that someone richer than you is doing it?Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -
The Black Macbooks actually had a higher spec than the White ones, they didn't just charge more because it was Black. Doesn't matter now anyway as they haven't sold Black Macbooks for years now.
Em, yes they did, they charged more because they could. They were seen as status symbols. Theres articles about it online and in the Economic Naturalist book by R.H. Frank.0 -
Haven't bothered to read all the usual nasty comments in this thread but I believe that the OP has a point. It may not be illegal to sell boys and girls bikes at different prices but it's certainly not fair.
It was also not fair to offer different rates of car insurance to different sexes and this has just been stopped.0 -

As ever, you have no idea what you are talking about. It was unlawful to charge different prices for insurance, and the judgment did give valid reasons for this being the case. If you want to go away and read the judgment then you could attempt to apply the ratio to this scenario. Can't wait to see how you get on ... :rotfl:Gone ... or have I?0 -
As ever I do know what I'm talking about. The bottom line is that you can't use gender to descriminate with car insurance.
I know that it's not illegal to sell girls bikes for more money, but I will repeat it's not fair.
A large retailer like Tesco's should be more aware of this sort of situation and be more careful with their pricing.

So a business, you know, these things people start up to make money. They shouldn't make their prices the optimum to make the most profit?
Zandoni I'd love to know what you do? Because if you were put in charge of anything that had to make money it would go bust within 12 months.0
