Provisional Insurance

My 17year daughter old is learning to drive.
Driving instructor has asked if she could start practicing in our car so we are looking for insurance.
Two options we have are provisional insurance which is about £90 per month and it become my daughters insurance policy. Any damage would be covered by her independent insurance
Our other option is to add her to our policy which would be cheaper because we would pay £90 per month for me, my wife and my daughter to drive on the policy. Any damage would effect my wifes policy.
The car is an old corolla and doesnt have much value.
Not sure which to go with....
What would you do?

Does the Provisional Insurance count towards an eventual no claims bounus for her? If so, that might be very worthwile?0

She doesn't have to have private practice. I never did when learning to drive, all done with an instructor.0

Alternatively get an insurance quote for the car as your own or your wife (making sure you are the honest main driver) add her on after that as a provisional driver and then get them to promise a fixed price that wont rise when she passes. Normally you can get them to agree to this with a small 'admin' fee when they pass of about £15 but if you can get a fixed price then its worth going for it. Just make sure she genuinely isn't going to be the main driver and it will be okay. After the first year insurance comes down a fair amount and having even 1 years experience named on another car all helps to bring down the cost of the next year.
Also make sure that you are covered for the use. If she has a part time job make sure she is insured for commuting to and from work. Hope this helps. Not sure if it amounts to a NCD being a named driver but it is certainly cheaper for the first year and is all experience.0 -
You cannot have 2 insurance policies on one car.
If i read that right your looking at insuring the same car on a policy held by your daughter, But the car is already insured
in your wifes name?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Interesting but I assume the OP means insurance marketed at learners for just that purpose - unsure how it stands legally but surely the companies involved (can't remember the name of the most popular one atm) couldn't market it as such if it wasn't legal?0 -

Of course you can, what you can't do is make two claims for the same damage. In the case of the OP, if wife damages car then claim is made against wife's policy, if daughter damages car then claim is against her policy0 -
Thats not insuring a specific car though. Its an anycar policy. from £90 a month..
I guess you dont get many lessons for that these days. Wonder if they would insure my wife on my
car? My insurer said no chance.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
thanks for all your replies...
To be clear the choice I have is to insure her on her own policy as an anycar policy = £80 per month.
Or
Add her to my wifes policy.
The car is a W reg 1.4 Corolla.
Quinns Direct will insure her and my wife for 1 year for £800 = however when she passes the policy leaps upto to £4000......I would have to cancel current policy to change to quinns.
Should I bite the bullet and get the anycar insurance.....
Is classic car insurance really an option as per previous posts £80 per month quickly buys a classic?????0 -

What's a "any car policy"?
The marmlade scheme covers a named car for a named driver, just like any other policy0
