Arnold Clark - Car not as described.

Options
Hi All, again another question for you experts.

We purchased a 10 plate car from Arnold Clark last week. On the internet and description in store stated electric mirrors. When we got the car they are actually manual.

I contacted the store and they have asked me what I would like to compensate.

We also have broken parking sensors, I have asked for a repair to these.

But what do I ask for for compensation, and if cash how much?

Many Thanks

Ask them to fit the electric mirrors as was described. I am guessing that they got the model trim level wrong, see if there is anything else that it says it has that it doesnt. It will cost them far more than any compensation you will get from them.

Some may say you should have checked but lets face it you cant check everything and its up to Arnold Shark to get it right in their adverts.
  • Thanks, I didn't want them to be honest, I would rather have some cash as I now have two insurance payments to make, already claimed and could not cancel my old policy and already took another out, mad I know but it was all new to me.

In that case try and get a decent amount out of them. Good luck!

Although I empathise with your plight, the devaluation of your car, for not having electric mirrors, is comparatively, very little. But I agree with Cardinalbiggles's advice, regarding anything else that may be different to what was described.

Just a thought though; when you test drove the car, what did you say to the sales executive, when you noticed the manual mirrors?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
  • get a quote for electric mirror kit and fitting from a dealer and then hit them with that quote and say this is how much it will cost me to get eleky mirrors and ask for that quote to be met in compensation.
  • To be honest I read the description after. So I didn't know until we were all done and dusted, the car was for my mrs and so she was the one doing the checking and looking at what she wanted. I just paid and that was that lol.

Now I contacted a Kia dealer and they said it would be very hard to do this and they would not be prepared to try!. They wouldn't even give me a price :-(

So I sent them a letter, being car dealers gave them a really high price and asked for 1500 compo. Now I guess they may offer 200.00 lol.

    Thanks for your help guys.

Seriously doubt you're going to get anywhere with this at all - if you didn't know it was supposed to have electric mirrors before purchasing then you've not been disadvantaged in the slightest

Doubt you'll get anywhere at all with a claim unless you have a detailed advert with the car showing its reg. number (they shift a lot of cars). Just be grateful the car didn't go bang, blow its doors off and leak every precious fluid before it got off the forecourt.

I'd say go to Hynudai website found out the difference in the cost between the car with electric mirrors and one without and ask for that as the difference, no car dealer especially Arnold Clark will give you £1500 for the difference for only electric mirrors.
You could always complain to advertising standards - false advertising.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
