Agreed that cycling sounds like the way to go! A lot cheaper to purchase than a car and no parking costs, you'll save an absolute fortune!
don't forget you'd get a free work-out so be saving on gym/sports club membership if you wanted to. :j

Your place of work may have some sort of subsidised cycle scheme too to help employees get fit. Worth looking into.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Why not buy a bicycle (second hand sound but scruffy ) and chain it up at the station ?.

Whilst cycling/biking and walking are all good options, consider the weather, it is not pleasant for you, or anyone who works with you, if you are arriving at work wet and or sweaty everyday - not all places of work have washrooms or showers. It's all well and good when the weather is fine, but bad weather can be a great disincentive for cycling.

I know there will be people wanting to say I cycle everyday wind, rain or snow, and to them I will say well done good for you.
There will be people who say they have no other option, to them I have admiration for doing what they need to do.
But if any of those people say that cycling in those conditions all year round is a pleasurable thing, I will say you are being disingenuous.

Certainly the scruffier the bike the less likely it's going to get nicked!

But on those days when cycling 'isn't suitable', then get a cab.

definately scooter, moped or electric bike. get some good waterproof stuff, like a big cloak that covers you down to your ankles and you wont be wet or sweaty
  • If it's only a £4 taxi fare it can't be that far . And you save the drivers tip.

We have the same thing, except it's to get to work 2.5 miles away, there are no buses, time is an issue because of childminder's starting times, as is my DH working 12 hours shifts doing proper physical work,so it's not really on to walk there and back when we can afford to do something different.

After years of me running him to and from work at 0630 we bought a Peugeot 206 for £2.5K, cost under £200 to insure and has so far cost us £180 for an exhaust, plus a couple of MOT test fees.

It seems madness to have a car for such a short journey, but time and effort don't always let people scooter to work ( or segway - though they are £4K:eek:)

How about a cheaper 2nd hand car, and trying to find a cheaper way to park than the £900 a year the train station want - there are websites out there where people rent out their driveway, might be cheaper for you than parking at the station.

There are also other websites where you can liftshare, maybe there's someone passing your door at the same time most days that would give you a lift in return for a share of the petrol?;)

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/cheap-parking-rental is the parking article

The other option is to take a taxi there with a fold up bike, then cycle home at night.:p
