2002 Amica: no reason why not, but not at £2000. £700 maybe. But I don't like the look of them so it's a moot point. Nothing engineering-wise that I'm aware of.

Mmm Ok :D I have seen one in real life today (in works car park) and they are so nice and looks a lot more robust than the seicento. This is the one I have seen close to home, although I have seen one for £600 but its damaged. Its only £100 more then the Sei and I would still be able to pay the insurance outright :D

Going to read the reviews etc until I decided to go see it. Unless anyone else throws up some suggestions. If I were to go for this do you think a £600 budget for the year for MOT/repairs etc is enough?

seriously? £1600 for a 2002 s**tbox? im looking for around £2000 for my 04 focus.
i'm not trying to advertise it here but i'm just trying to help put that price into perspective.
i would be offering no more than £800 for that tops. its almost 10 years old.
    ...work permit granted!

    Then again, £2000 is top-book for a 7-year-old s***tbox :)

I know, I own one as well (although mine is only 4 years old so still worth about three grand).

Small cars fetch more than larger ones. Completely illogical but that's the way it is.

I passed my test 2 years ago and my 1st car was a 1996 Renault Clio, 1.2 3 door.
It was a great car for a first car but didnt have power steering which i now think was a nightmare!!

You dont have to be a statistic of road deaths. I have now been driving just over 2 years and have never had so much as a bump (touch wood etc)- i just stick to the limit, NEVER drink even a sip of alcohol if i am driving, NEVER attempt to even read a text/answer a call when driving and generally drive sensibly and safetly.

Its better to get a car that may not 'look' as good as you want, but that if you crash it, it wont really matter, and it needs to be SAFE!

i have a W reg Fiat now (2000 i think??) a 1.2, 3 door, and it goes like !!!!!! off a shovel around the cornish and devonshire roads and also keeps up with my friends 1.6 on the M5!!

    Good luck whatever you decide.

GS, you find an Amica in Somerset, 02 plate for less than £1,600! Yes there are some for £1,200 up north but the price of petrol (driving it home) and the time off work would cancel out the savings. Plus the fact that that one looks more sound than a £800 2000 I found. I will not be updating this car for at least 5years maybe 10years unless it was completly uneconomical to repair. In which time I will have saved much more for a then better car.

The fact is its the price the buyer puts on a car. I may think a 2011 Audi is only worth £5,000 yet you may think its the bees knees and would pay £11,000+ Plus whos to say I don't get there and give the seller just £1k for it?

Also as a side note the Seicento I wanted was an 2002 and I was willing to part with £1,495 for that. This has more doors, bigger, safer and looks more reliable so £100 more is a bargain :rotfl:

Jase, I think you have summed it up small cars cost more. Prob because they are cheaper to run and have lower inssurance quotes (generally).

To me it boils down to driving now or waiting another 6-12months :o The reason why I waited is because I never wanted an 'old banger' as my first car, everyone does it but I always wanted a nice car for my first. If I listen to everyones opinion in the world I will never get around to driving because 'X is better', 'X is chaper' etc etc.

However thanks to everyone for all your imput, I have read it and taken it on board.
