First car? What car? Budget?

Wow, thanks Jese, it was an Amica I was looking at mainly this one. I am guessing this is better than a Seicento?
Whoa whoa whoa. Look at the age of the thing. That is a full four years older than the one I linked to. Those four years -- plus a FSH (I wouldn't trust that "FSH" on an old low-mileage car -- it'll have been serviced every 10000 miles which means every 2 years) -- are well worth the extra £750.
Whatever you do, don't buy an old, small car unless it's Japanese. It WILL give trouble otherwise.0 -

Colour is horrid but the car is fine. I am sure you have been reading from the start and you may have noticed all my suggestions have been the same - a box on wheels. Thats what I want, I am not a fan of curves, bucket seats, areodynamics, modifications, race type cars etc etc. I know call me old fashioned0 -
Yes it is.
But at least it isn't a nasty little rotbox with a pushrod engine that rattles like a box of teaspoons.
If the OP likes the look of them then our opinion on their looks is pretty much redundant, don't you think?
Dont get me wrong Im not a massive fan of the KA and they can get the rust in them and the engine might be ancient, but they're cheap to run and as I said above a mate of mines was still going at 180k, and it had no rust and he serviced and washed it every time Hayleys comet went past.
Out of the Amica and KA Im sure if you took a poll most people would go for the KA but as you say its the OP's choice.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -

Full service history = a good thing.
There will be other cars around at that sort of price, 'twas just the first that came up (I'm from the NE).
As for budget, bear a few things in mind. First, a 4 year old car with 44K miles is infinitely preferable to the same car, 4 years older with the same mileage. Age kills cars not miles, and 44K over four years means it's been used properly.
Second, that yellow thing will still have a year of manufacturer's warranty left. The 2002 car is overpriced by about £1300 IMO.0 -
Thank you FCR and Jase. Most 2006/7/8 Amica down here are £3-4k sadly there are a few 2000/1/2 which are nearer price range but again its the age of the thing. Might it be worth me saving more money and waiting?
NO one told me when learning to drive that buying your first car would be the hardest part :rotfl:0 -
Think so yes -- or try buying further afield!
One final suggestion would be the Citroen C1/Peugeot 107/Toyota Aygo (they're all the same car). These are a more modern version of the Ka and don't suffer from the same problems.
Must be said as well that the used values for the Ka seem to be softening up a tad -- £3000 will buy you a 2006-7 Ka, with the improved engine. Still ustbuckets but if you buy new enough this won't be an issue for a while.
But yeah, don't spend £2000 on a near-10 year old car. You'll regret it. Save up a bit more and get the newest car you can affordIn the meantime buy a Micra for £400 and run it for a year or so.

Thanks Jase, I think its back to saving, so maybe in October I can buy one. Even at the right price would you not get a 2002 Amica?
I like the C1 and 107 but only the newer styles which are in the region of 4k so nowhere near my thoughts to be honest. The Agro I don't like
Micra might be the way forward, but then if I am honest I could have got one of those 4years ago :rotfl: I think I will be saving a little longer0
