What about a KA? Mate had one,was still going strong at 180k.

No! I will consider any car (within reason) but a Ka is a car I will never even look twice at. The new style one yes (but way out of budget), the old bubbles no way, even if you offered it to me free, sorry :o

I quite like the hyundai amica, shame about the insurance :(

    Can I ask why?

Never liked the style, friend had one (from new) that had to be sold on only after 6 years because of an engine fault and I didn't like being a passanger in one so I would hate to drive one.

Lucky escape -- the ones in your price range (pre-2003 or so) had antediluvian engines, and they are all unmitigated rotboxes.

Would not touch with ten foot pole.

Is that the Ka Jese? Anyone know anything about the Hyundai?

    Yes, the Ka.

Small Hyundai engines (the belt-driven ones) up to quite recently (including the current Kia Picanto which is a Hyundai design fundamentally) use a variant of a Mitsubishi design -- generally the Alpha engine which is fundamentally a Mitsubishi Orion. This is a very well-proven design which rarely gives trouble -- I'd certainly have one over the Ford Kent engine any day of the week.

The problem with the Atoz is that it is an old car now. The build is rather "light", so even though it is mechanically robust, by 8 or 10 years it'll be showing its age.

A far better bet if you like the Atoz is to try to find one of the newer Amicas they brought in as a stop-gap from 2006 until the intro of the i10. These sell second-hand for about £3000. They are, to all intents and purposes a refreshed Atoz. Not my cup of tea I have to say but not bad for what they are.

Wow, thanks Jese, it was an Amica I was looking at mainly this one. I am guessing this is better than a Seicento?

    That is HIDEOUS!!!

    Yes it is.

But at least it isn't a nasty little rotbox with a pushrod engine that rattles like a box of teaspoons.

If the OP likes the look of them then our opinion on their looks is pretty much redundant, don't you think?
